Anyone changed careers?
As title says...
had enough of putting up with unappreciative to55ers, been thinking about it for ages and a hospital visit yesterday confirmed it (seeing as I'm gonna have to give up the part of the job I enjoy) - I'm getting out of this Architectural cr@p!
Anyone else changed career and not looked back?
or anyone wished they hadn't?

I moved to London as a security guard...now I'm a vice president in charge of currency derivatives trading with an American bank. Quite happy with the career change.
Hope that helps,
Chuck

Used to be an accountant. Still in a related field, but I was always rubbish at the debits and credits, so don't ever ask me to understand a balance sheet!
I buy and sell companies now.

Having retired at 25, I then bought and sold shares for something to enjoy doing from home whilst playing at cars and women.
Having fairly recently had a lot of money stolen, I set about eBay for something else to do from scratch.
I'm very busy but I still get much more play time than if I had to go to work, plus when I'm out and about all sales are directed to my mobile, so I can deal with it where ever I am.
Defo recommend getting busy on eBay.

I am in the process of changing careers from a sales director to a garden designer. More a change of lifestyle than just a career change. Unfortunately I am not quite ready to chuck in the day job, due to approaching house move and wedding, but getting there.
I have done quite a few designs for friends and family, etc and these have created interest from other people, so the next stage is to register as self-employed with the IR and run the design business along side my current job for a while.
It's frustrating that I cant just quit my job now, but I guess the longer I take making preparations, the more chance of success.

yep, gone from "time-served" toolmaker at Ford Motor Company, to running my own IT business. (via various routes)
lot of pressure, but highly enjoyable. (plus i start around 10am and finish at 4pm most days

i thought about going on my own last year - the amount of stuff I needed and other outgoings put the kai-bosh on it.

I have two friends who made career changes and both said it was the best thing they have done. One was previously an aerospace engineer, the other was in sales. They both became teachers !

I was originally in automotive electronics/alarms - loved it, but forced out by lack of business. Then industrial/commercial airconditioning - hated that. Then PC/IT/sage/tech work for small businesses via an accounting firm, not what I want to do, doesn't pay well, but pretty flexible and low stress so at least it keeps me sane.
Now working on setting up something in e-sales relating to selling certain products. I'm not divulging anything as there is an evident hole in the market and I don't want any copycat competition until I'm off the ground Not what I truely "want", but low stress, flexible and if sucessful, should be a nice little earner

I thought it might be ok to be a teacher until I married one. Primary shcool might be ok, but secondary school is a real slog. Long hours, bringing work home, abusive kids, abusive parents, no-one thanks you for it - not for me. Money is suprisingly good, though (despite what teachers will tell you).
