Whats your favorite restaurant?
and why?
Mine is probably Peter Lugar steakhouse in Brooklyn NY, I went there a couple of years ago and the place was full of character.
Without doubt the finest steak I have ever eaten

The Tia Pan, L,pools dock road, or The Cathay Gardens in Southport for Chinese.
The Saffron in Widnes for Indian.
And last but not least, the Queens, on Queens Drive L,pool for a Carvery.
Im no connoisseur of restaurants or fancy cuisine, but I know what I like.
I was once taken to a posh restaurant by a customer who was trying to impress, I was served food 'Neuvo Cuisine' style, little portions, and served like a painting, the bill was a telephone number and I went to the BurgerKing on the way home.
Impressed..........NO.

Can get a really really nice roast in a local pub for under a £5. I know you dont go to a decent place for a roast but I still expect it to be worth the money. I just dont get why people spend so much just for something to look nice on the plate if it tastes like crap.

Rick Steins in Padstow is the best place I have been in the UK, but the best place overall is Rockpool in Sydney. A truly awesome dining experience, with their 7 course menu, that is a seafood extravaganza !!!

Would love to try Rick stein's place. anybody been?
Rhodes24 is also very good - we went not long ago , as is Top Floor at Smiths of Smithfield ( I recall this was one of chuck's recommendations ). If you like seafood, then Royal Native Oyster Stores in Whitstable is excellent.
Les Halles on Park ave. if you are in NY , and a top Mexican is Zarelas .

I did mention Smiths..great for meat Rhodes24...I think I went there before a name change..very good indeed...the man takes alot of care over his cooking.
Currently my favourite is Chapter One down in Locksbottom in Kent. It's fabulous food and relatively informal (ie it isn't stuck up it's own ar$e, despite Michelin Star and AA restaurant of the year 2004) It's modern British/european, lunch during the week or on Saturday is fantastic...full menu, no pretensions.
In the Midlands I'd love to go to Fishers at Baslow Hall...just haven't had a chance yet
I also really like Ubon, almost Nobu on the presentation and quality, but much nicer dining room(Nobu is horrible)...great views up and down the Thames in the evenings.
I'm up in Edinburgh next week, after which Martin Wishart and The Tower will get a review

Rick Stein's in Padstow, followed very closely by the Lovelady Shield Country House Hotel in Alston, Cumbria http://www.lovelady.co.uk/
For "dining pubs" The Blue Lion in East Witton, N.Yorks http://www.thebluelion.co.uk/ and The Thorn in Mistley, Manningtree, Essex http://www.mistleythorn.co.uk/ are two of our regular haunts.

http://www.restaurant22.co.uk/
is superb.
Clarridges is also very good.
oxo tower and fifteen were absulote rubbish, just over hyped by people who have no comparison.
For informal dining went to a fantastic steak place in toronto, that was very good.

Best Seafood Restaurant was Ristorante Los Abrigos in Tenerife. It's quite simply unbeatable from the deep fried whitebait down to the freshly caught Swordfish steaks! I go there atleast twice whenever i'm there.....oh and the best bit is that it's McD's money for the food!!
I really like the Jewel in the Crown on Crown St in Aberdeen. It's a superb Indian restaurant.
As i'm still quite young i haven't done much travelling to go to fine restaurants as until recently i've not really been able to appreciate the quality of the food. As far as i was concerned as long as it looked good, tasted nice and filled me up then it was a brilliant meal!
Hopefully, i'll get to try some of the places mentioned on here.
Cheers
James
