Who do you have your House Insurance with?
Will be switching Insurers shortly - who's everyone with?
And what service have you had if you needed to claim?
Had to claim for a new PC a couple of years back, was told I could only have one from PC World! WTF!! One thing I will definately checking is if I will be limited to who they say can replace my goods - I have a lot of home cinema gear that you've no chance of finding in Curry's...

L&G - you get the option on replacement of nearest spec, of if they can't find something that suits, you can have the cash. It is your decision. Recently had a fairly large claim - 'paperwork' part of the claim was carried out over the phone in about 15 minutes. Supplers all called within 2 hours to arrange replacements. New laptop and video camera (higher spec than previously) both delived within 48 hours. Jewellery took about 2 weeks from specialist suppliers.)
(p.s. - I am biased - I am an L&G agent, but they claims dept didn't know that)

L&G?
Current insurer's are through Building Society - Royal & Sun Alliance (they have a deal with Dixons Group that means they get to supply all their electrical claims in exchange for supplying them all their computers)
They have a guarantee to replace stuff thats at least as good or better than what you lost - I now keep What Hi-Fi reviews of all my gear just in case - My telly was only the 2nd ever to get 10/10 so they're not getting away with some palming off some philips muck.

Legal & General. They have various suppliers. If you can get the kit from Currys they will let you do that. If it is better spec, they will try to source you the equivalent. If they can't do it, they offer you cash.

I've just dumped Select & Protect cos they were insanely expensive. I've now gone with Nationwide. I used a comparison site, which came up with cheaper options like Esure, but these needed certain types of window and door locks. As i couldn't be bothered with all the DIY involved I went with nationwide with a high voluntary excess (£250 on buildings and contents), which halved my premuim for a greater level of cover than I had previously.

I use L & G. Can't fault them, especially considering my house gets flooded twice a year.
I've given them a list of all my electrical goodies, at least everyone is singing from the same song sheet.
Don't waste your time with Direct Line. I used them when I lived in London and they were a waste of time.
*Note to self: Don't buy a house on a river bank*

I had the same problem with HC stuff. Getting the overall value covered high enough is an issue and in the case of L&V they limit it to 25k for entertainment items. That's a pity because L&V were doing up to 125k in total for contents at insanely low rates.
Finally went with www.hiscox.com who very helpful over the phone and within a nats tadger of NU who are also quite competative .

PS insuresupermarket.com gave Norwich Union as my cheapest motor insurance quote at £700, £100 more than I pay with Tesco, who are not included in the search. Note there are quite a few NU popups while using the site
