Default household insurance claims-help needed please

had an accident in bathroom which resulted in an insurance claim for a new bath and a new shower-question is tho-i have a mate who is just setting himself up in business and could do this job for me and is willing to and will be able to undercut the insurance company quote as well but as he is just starting out he is not VAT registered-will the insurance company still accept his quote and let him get job or do they insist that only a VAT registered plumber can do job? whats the rules on this from there point of view?
quick reply needed please.

Dunno OPM, your best bet is to get it from th horse's mouth. They can only say no can't they.
Why not ask suggest use use this local trader who you have used in the past and trust his skills. They may just write you a cheque for the full amount and let you get on with it.

when i made a claim to Direct Line to have my bumper re-sprayed after someone drove into me the quote came from a non VAT firm - they didn't care, just sent a cheque made out to me. In general, if it is cheaper they will be happy.

The insurance company will usually go for the cheapest option, as long as the work is guaranteed. (Beware, they usually get heavy discounts because of the massive volumes of business they place with nominated companies. We got a wooden floor replaced on house insurance. The quote was for £1700.00, but the company only actually charged the insurance company £1100.00. The idea is that Joe Bloggs shouldn't see how cheaply the work can be carried out, otherwise they will want that price all the time.

Wink

When my bath got cracked, I just got a quote for a new one and fitting, then told them I wanted a corner bath now and I'd fit it if they paid me the original quote.
They did.
