can some one explain to me why ? how ? blokes going to end up with a dodgy groove in his arm. will look like he's escaped from a building with high walls and fences

Good on him, I say.
He is not hurting anyone else other than himself, so whats the problem.
If thats how he wants to express himself, so be it.
Tattoo's, branding's, piercing's, are all common place, but at one time got the same reaction as this new art of skin removal.....give it time and you will see alot more of it.
To slag him off as a nutter/freak is a little harsh in my opinion.
Live and let live, its not YOUR arm.......
