Default [iPod] Anyone tested the goPod patch for volume increase?

Gotta say I love my iPod, but the one thing that can be annoying is the low volume output. There is a fix out there for the 3G and 4G iPods (European only I believe) which is supposed to correct the problem.

goPod is available here

I'll try it tomorrow as my iPod clobber is in the office...presuming my iPod will work with it (dunno if mine is a 3G or 4G, I only bought it about 6 months ago - how do I tell?).

Anyone already tried the goPod fix? Does it do what it's supposed to?

Not tried this particular one. I was lucky enough to get an earlier programme that corrected the firmware deep down. Apple cut that site down though. The one I use is great, and it really does improve the volume loads, it doesn't just update the sound in iTunes.

Makes one hell of a difference to the iTrip.

Thanks for that - just read through the readme.txt file and it appears that it removes the EU cap on the volume in the iPod firmware so maybe I'll also get the same performance increase from my iTrip too. Happy days !

I've got an iriver mp3 player. It's that loud I can only set it too 75% max before I'm in danger of my ears bleeding.

I just gave it a go. Removed my previous firmware one, and this one does exactly the same.

Can't go and test the iTrip at the moment, but I can tell you this one makes my EU 3G as loud as my US Mini, worked perfectly.

Wouldn't expect it to last that long though so get your copy while you can before Apple sends out a C&D order on the site. Thats what happened to the last one because they get in deep sh if the EU finds out

PS, yes Frenchie, you were right, it is only the EU that has this volume restriction. The US ones are very, very loud.

Hmmm...goPod didn't work for me either - wouldn't detect my 'pod. Did the same as you Regulator, picked up iMod and after a couple of false starts, the limit is now disabled and I have Fear Factory blasting my eardrums as I write - what a difference !

It didn't detect mine either first time. I ejected it with goPod open then put it back in and it picked it up straight away.
