New CDs
Passed Tescos this morning on the way home from the docs and decided to treat myself to a few new CDs...
Couldn't make my mind up so i bought:
Hed Kandi The mix : Summer 2004
MOS : Annual Summer 2004
Groove Armada : The Best Of
Had a quick flick through them all and all I can say is they are absolutely fantastic!!
Never really been a huge fan of Groove Armada, but the album is a great all rounder - it's those songs you heard on the radio and like - but never got round to buying all that time ago!
Hed Kandi is just absolutely fantastic!!! A few good remixes of classics on there and a lot of stuff I haven't heard before. A three disc set each with a different theme. Very funky!
The Annual Summer 2004. No matter how crap dance music has been in the recent years (well, not crap - just the lack of the good stuff like cafe del mar/energy 52, carisma/let me show you, da hool/meet her at the love parade etc), clubbers have bought the Annual Summer whatever - and I am glad to say, IMO, it is on the up!! A few cracking tunes on there!
Has anyone else bought any albums/compilations recently? Looking on expanding my collection so a few suggestions wouldn't go a miss (not just dance/house, anything'll do!)!! Although you may not think it by my purchases today - I'm a brit pop kid at heart

On a dance note
The new Sander Kleinenburg mix album is amazing, best of the summer, its even got this summers best tune Spectrum - Kinda new (tiefscharz dub mix) on it
FabricLive 16 Adam Freeland is amazing too.
Bit old now (start of year) but Armand Van Heldens New York Mix odessy album is one of the best mix albums i've ever bought.
Hed Kandi used to be good but now all the albums are the same sounding, and they've just sold out and lost all credability by putting on nights at any club who'll pay the £5k to get a HK night. Shame, they used to be a quality brand and put on quality nights

Can't be doing with all that chav music but can recommend the Green Day album American Idiot. Fantastic all-round album, arguably their most complete offering to date. Not quite got the 'grab you' attitude of Dookie but definitely more total as an album. Has an interesting concept style to it too, with various issues or themes recurring throughout.

I think Dookie is their best album by far

GA - must say I love those guys. At the River being a personal fave Tempted by the greatest hits, but as i've got most of thier CD's, dunno if it's worth it.
As for CD's I've just got which I love, well, let's see...
Joyfull Rebellion - K-os. Got it mainly for Crabuckitt (big over here at the mo) didn't know it was hip-hoppy, but it's a fantastic album. Though I'm sure I've heard some of the tracks years ago.
Joey Neggro Presents: Here Comes the Sunburst Band - ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh yeah! very very very cool. 70's / 80's soul/funk/jazz with a 90's twist. Very me. I just love that CD, makes me so happy, nearly as happy as when I hear 'move your feet' by Junior Senior (and that makes me very very happy).
Green day? weren't one of their infulences "The stiff little fingers"?
As for CD's to get. hmm, well there are a couple of "chilled" Cd's I want (really wish Angel Beach 2 was out here, have the first one and totally love it). Think I might splurge at the weekend

I just bought the new fatboy album.
Palookaville.
It's very different from all his other albums, much more chilled out. (apart from slash dot )
So I'll be nice and chilled sitting in the friday traffic this eve!

Alongside "The Offspring", "Green Day" are one of the few rock/punk bands around now that have been together with an unchanged line-up for over 10 years.. that's some longevity in a genre which promotes the harder/faster lifestyle..
I'm talking **** now and will therefore shut up.

ok, so the song is a tad cheesy, and so's the video, but I love it. Get's me on a high and that is what music is all about.
It's like those times when you're feeling a bit down, and Marylin Manson's version of "Tainted Love" is played, kinda makes you feel, "yeah, **** em, **** em all to hell!"

Another vote for Fatboy Slim - Palookaville and also the Sunburst Band. Joey Negro at his finest !!! Sat next to him on a flight back from Glasgow once, what a nice bloke. Have seen him do many a blinding set at the Southport Weekenders.
Talking of Southport, theres also a Southport Weekender mix CD by Joe Claussel and Blaze thats good thats recently been released.

I'm not quite as cynical as Nat, but Hed Kandi has changed , but then I guess all music labels do. That said, the Summer 2004 Mix XD that Claire mentioned is a belter. One of the best they've done in recent years. Currently a permanent addition to the car CD collection
