CDs Skipping?
#1
New to the world of in-car CD players, I'm not sure whether this is to be expected or whether the unit has a problem:
I've just changed to a Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 with an original-fitment 10-CD autochanger in the boot. Some of my CDs appear to "skip" when playing, but only on certain tracks and only with certain CDs. Not all tracks skip on a CD that skips and not all CDs skip. Happens even on smooth roads so, is this normal, is it likely there's a problem with the autochanger or is it down to poor CD manufacture?
I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Could be one of three things is my immediate thought:
- Either the CDs are dirty and need cleaning
- Or the caddy is knackered in some way
- or the changer unit needs a damn good clean

I had this problem with one cd on my marantz cd separate. one track skipped ona brand new cd everytime, but this never happened on other players. I put this down to badly written data on the cd, ie not written so that all lasers are able to pick the data. The way the laser picks up info varries from player to player I guess, so there may not be much you can do about it I'm afraid.
give it a damn good clean with one of those cd cleaners you can get from mvc, virgin etc like normal cd players, but it may be worth servicing to get it checked properly. This costs upwards of £50 quid as my bro had his old pioneer changer done for £65, and you may want consider buying an FM changer to replace your existing one - after all, you can pick one up for about £100 these days and may be worth it in the long run if you're going to change the hu in the future.
Hope this helps
