Anybody into Lapindary? (Stone Cutting & Polishing)
Being lucky enough to live in Devon we have access to many different beaches along the coastline. The variation in the types of stone you find is really interesting and sometimes I find myslef looking more at the beach than out to sea. Anyway went into a local shop that sold polished local stones and they looked superb. I've been looking for a new interest and this could keep me busy.
Found this website http://www.delscope.demon.co.uk/personal/lapidary.htm
My birhtdays soon so I think I know what I would like.
Anybody into this? Know anything about it?
Andy

I know
But you know how it is, sometimes the most obscure interest can be shared by several people on Scoobynet....
Except of course Lapindary
Ah well nothing gained....

ISTR my father rigging up some basic tumbling machines under the floorboards (some sort of soundproofing??) of the old house (= about 20 years ago). Think he used them twice and that was it. Probably too noisy. Read the above article, and you're expected to have the machines on for over a week.
I think you need to be pretty dedicated, TBH.

Do you know I thought the machines would make no more noise than the sound of a breeze. It wasn't something I'd really thought about.
So it was worth posting the topic after all. Something I'll need to check into.
Thanks Brendan (again!)

The machines don't make much noise, but a bunch of rocks constantly falling against each other certainly do! I'm stuck as to a comparison - perhaps as much as a dishwasher? But really, that long ago so I'm not sure.
Perhaps try to visit somewhere to see some in action, you'd soon get an idea.

Well I've just been on the phone to a supplier in Cornwall, only about an hour or so away, sounded really friendly. They've invited me to go over anytime to check the machines out.
I can see future thread titles now..."Anyone like to see pictures of my rocks?"
