Default Starting your own business guide

I'm going through the motions of starting up for myself in the new year. Has anyone found any good sites/books/mags on guides to starting up like business plans, tax and insurance issues etc. Any useful links would be appreciated, the best one i have so far is one off the Inland Revenue site.

thanks

Wink

Started mine with ukplc.com easy, quick and cheap. Might be worth going straight to an accountant, they can do it all, most will do it cheap if they get to do your accounts. They will register with companies house, issue share cert's, register directors/secretaries/registered office and help with company bank accounts. Wish I had gone down that route......! Setting up a company is really easy, it's all the other 'stuff' that's not!

Yeah i work for Business Link Start up team in Northampton so def contact the Nottingham office - they should be able to arrange an appointment for you with a Business Adviser who will act as an impartial sounding board plus make sure you choose to set up the business in the right way for you (i.e. Sole trader, Ltd Co etc), they can also offer training courses etc. The Inland Revenue Business Support Team are GREAT in Northampton and run a brilliant workshop for newly self employed people plus workshops on setting up payroll, taking on staff etc. I haven't got the number for Nott's but it'd be worth ringing the local tax office and asking for the team's number.

Business Link also publish a good book called the No Nonsense Guide to setting up in business and it's worth asking for a copy of that.

If you need anymore help / info / contact numbers etc please post a reply on here and i'll check sometime this afternoon.

Hope this helps.

Thumbs up

Brilliant, thanks all for replies. Gonna have a good look through it all and probably call some of the suggested people/companies. Thanks again.
