somebody's gotta do it - Nikon D70 v Canon 20D
So....which one? Is the Canon 20D a big advance over the Nikon D70?
Worth the extra few hundred?
Must go and read www.dpreview.com to find out more about the 20D.

The D70 is blown out the water by the 20D - IMHO - and I was full of praise for the D70.
The 20D just 'feels' right ..... but if you've got Nikon Glass then its got to be the D70.
Just as the D70 sunk the EOS300D, the 20D sinks the D70 ... and so it will go on, its just so fast these days ....... I mean, the D70 is only a few months old and its not the best in class anymore!
Its the prices that will continue to be hit, and rightly so.
I see that EVERYWHERE has the Nikon D70 now, 4 weeks ago they were like hens teeth .......... the balance between buyer and seller has now shifted and the price/deals improve (mugs buy too quickly, but that leaves the bargains for us rich boys!)

Read the review of the 20D on dpreview.com now, and does look nice.
5fps for around 30 frames sounds nice! Never used continuous shooting much with my previous SLR, but that's because of the film costs!! With digital, it's free, so why not Even if just for auto-bracketing etc (although, again, guess this is less important when you can just edit in Photoshop).
Gut feel says go for Canon - probably far more Canon lenses available 2nd hand in the camera shops round here - EOS's seemed to be the most popular chemical SLR so suspect more lens choice 2nd hand??

The lens that comes with the 20D is the same as comes with the 300D
Which I thought a little odd, its a good lens - but, I was expecting a better one?

Thw 20D does beat the D100 however, which is NIkons camera in that class. The D200 (or whatever Nikon will call it) will be anounced soon. You'l be able to see who is seen as best then.
In the starter market, Nikon still holds sway, however Canon hold the high ground at the other end.
Should see some interesting developments.

Good article that compares the D70 and 20D on handling and ease of use. The D70 certainly has ease of handling that the Canon simply cannot match.
Well worth the read if you are in the market for either.
