Lightbulb does anyone work with someone they hate?

just wondered how you deal with it.
basically i'm now in that position.i have to work very closely with the most arrogant, self opinionated d*ck that i've ever met.at the moment my approach is to grin and bear it.i'm trying to act mature in the hope it will help me get promoted(away from him).the alternative is to make life hell for him(not my style).

anyone in a similar position?

(when i say "hate",i really mean hate, not dislike.)

another thing he did was stop us clocking each other off.what i mean is if you share a car,one gets out and clocks both on,other parks car.
he grassed and put a stop to it.

Does sound like a ***** but at the end of the day, he is making sure you are doing your job correctly.
I myself work nights and seriously had to adjust my habits when a Jobsworth came onto my shift. He left and the old habits returned

Ah Night shifts!! Those were the days. Sign in at 10:30pm and sign off 5 seconds later leaving the other guy to do all the work. The next night the favour was returned.

The Security Guards were fine about it. In return we never mentioned them drinking or sleeping whilst on duty.

Only got into trouble once in 4 years when the security guards asked us to stop switching the snack machine to free vend as they were getting the blame for it.

I'd bet your management aren't over the moon about this guy either. He might think he is licking up to them but I bet they wouldn't trust him as far as they could throw him. In the end they are people just like you, and they are seeing just the same thing as you so it might be reasonable to assume that their private views are not too different to yours. They just can't come out and say it.

I have often found that keen types like that can be their own downfall as they are usually in a big hurry to act on any information they come upon, without checking to ensure it is correct. If that information is wrong and, say, they go to the area manager with it then local management might look upon the person they believe grassed them up in a very unfavourable light.

I'd say this persons keenness could be his own downfall if the correct circumstances were to be generated.

Paulr

and if it was your company,, would you like to be paying all these people to watch vcd,s when work could be done??

we no longer have a night shift for that reason, it became obvious that some were taking the p*ss so it was stopped and the people were brought onto the day shifts result.. productivity soared..

there was a story about an engineering nightshift who used to work for a large automotive oem,, they used to do homers during there shift which became a very profitable operation to the point that they were running it as a small business. they only got found out and sacked when there own compnay approached them via another company who reccomended them..

two of your "actions" are classed as gross misconduct where i work, and i would guess that you wouldnt be happy if dismisssed for fraud, and it was made common knowledge to your next employer..

contrary to popular belief the clever way to do it is to spread the workload throughout the shift, that way you always look busy, and if you have to pick up more work, it needs a premium guv, cos were so busy!!

the best way to get mr mangement off your back is to give him a project logging data, he will spend weeks logging data for spreadsheets and think himself so important..

get him generating useless spreadsheets...

but in all honesty if you do get grassed up and his claims are substantiated

you havnt go a leg to stand on..

As someone said Paul, watch him like a hawk, even if he has not been placed there by the boss, he will drop you in it to further himself. Best to just put up with it for the time being and stay in the clear.

Slightly different, but yes I worked with someone I hated.

He was our Sales Director, I was running a project team. One day one of the girls on my team was very, very upset. Finally managed to get her to explain what was wrong. Turned out that he had called her into his office for a chat which had ended up with him asking her if she liked her job and what was she doing this evening. The threat was very obvious.

I went into his office to have a full and frank but reasonable discussion with him about it. He just laughed and said it was one of the perks of the job.

I got fired just after I broke his jaw.

SB

PS Three months later I was back there as Technical Director after he and the previous Tech Dir had been found to be cooking the books big time. Chairman felt he'd rather have someone working for him who was a little volatile (!) but honest than a scheming crook
