Unhappy Damm Safety Camera Vans

There I was poodling along when a Calibra wanted to play. I just caught glimpse of the van as I whoosed passed it, 40 speed limit I think i was doing 80 as I passed it. Does this equate to a ban? I hope not only had my Scoob for 4 weeks

If you were caught doing 80mph in 40mph zone then yes.

Not sure if $cameras are set to a specific speed or not?

I think you might find it's worse than a ban.
40mph over the limit could be a short stretch inside with the current 'clampdown' campaigns. They will more than likely want to make an example of you to deter the rest of us :-(

I hope not, i'm kind of worried about it. Do you know of anyone that has done a stretch for speeding offences?

This is the one time i'm in favour of speed camera's, when they catch moorons driving at this speed in restricted areas.
Make a date with the magistrates and kiss good bye to your licence, good thing is you were caught before you killed someone.

That would be very harsh, it may be a longish ban but prison?
there was a uproar when those two bikers were put inside for doing 153mph

What the hell were you thinking? Calibra? Save yourself for an EVO at the very least!

Good luck, but 80 in a 40 deserves whats coming I'm afraid! get the KY Jelly in and brace yourself young man!!

LOL

Dont be scared by the suggestions of prison. Wait for the NIP (it might not come) and get yourself some good legal representation and you should be okay in terms of avoiding prison.

I think 80 in a 40 will be a Dangerous Driving charge TBH. Probable ban, loss of licence and extended retest at the very worst. Depends on your age, any current points and how much you can lick ***.

Just for your info...
Any speed in a 30\40 zone is a very bad idea... I've been unfortunate enough to see a person hit by a car doing about 50 in a 30... lets say it was pretty gruesome... and not something i want to see again...

Seeing it changed my mind on speeding in such areas for good... there's a time and a place and it aint in 30-40 zones...
I personaly think the sooner they start banning these young muppets "and i'm not saying your one" doing say over 45 in a 30 the better.... having kids tends to change your way of thinking somewhat... !

I'm a total petrol head, but i think it shows more that your are if you can control that skill to the right time and place... unlike the chav community!

Anyhow after my litttle rant here's the info...

Good luck.

It was daft, but how many on here are whiter than white ?, there but for the grace of god........

If you get a NIP, get legal representation (and learn from the incident).

Depends where the 40 limit is as well, and what time of day it was. If it was a 40 limit not far from a school and it was leaving school time you are heading towards a ban

If it was on a quiet road heading out into national limit territory and there was nobody about you stand a much better chance.

If you do more than 100mph its meant to be an automatic ban, but its not always enforced. My firend was done for 106mph, it was late at night, and not many ppl about. He was let off with 6 points and a few hundred quid fine.

Ah how times have changed.. I remember getting caught doing 118mph on the M27 in 1990.. sp70, 3 points and £40 fine..

closest I can help with prediction is 56 in a 30, 5 points £100 fine plus £30 costs in 1999..

Trying so hard to keep hold of a clean licence nowadays, I've totalled 14 points over the years, since '88, not all at once I might add, but those 5 took me to 8 at that time and that was enough to make me realise that if I wasn't careful I was gonna lose the licence..

It's easy to drift over the limit and twice I've been snagged doing less than 5mph over the limit in 40's so nothing is safe, but 80 in a 40 is kinda asking for it.. Just hope they give you a break cos you're carrying a clean licence at the moment.

All the best.

I was caught doing 75 in a 40, got a 3 week ban.

Think you're looking at a month at least.

there are lots of dual carriageways around here with 40mph restrictions where its easy to do more safely.

We all do it from time to time.

Just rememebr you speedo over reads by about 10%, and the spped vans error on the side of caution so if you think you were doing 80 on your speedo i would expect a nip for about 70.

either way you are still looking at a ban, just depends how long and how much of an **** tony blairite bum bandit magistrate you get.

The fine has to posted to the registered keeper within 14 days of the offence, so allowing for postage you have 15 / 16 days to wait - if nothing comes through by then you are OK.

i was racing my P1 against my brothers Evo and he got caught by mobile van cam, he was going mad worrying about it, what he did was he went to our local citizen advice office and asked for help.
Beleive it or not the people there hear about stuff like this all the time and had some actual cases on file. They went through these, advised him well,
Good thing is this also tells you how harsh the magistrates are in your local area. Well worth it for nothing

I thought the rule was 30mph+ over the limit was an automatic ban eg >70 in a 40 limit zone or >100 in a 70 zone....

I do know some 40mph stretches of dual carriageway that don't warrant a 40 limit....but you were probably asking for it 80 in a 40...and a calibra FFS !!

good luck anyway

Got the NIP through this morning 72mph in a 40mph zone not as bad as I thought. Forgot to mention it was a dual carriageway where it is easy to overspeed. May still get stung though. But i've no previous convictions. Fingers crossed.

before you edited the above you stated you need your car for work......if thats the case why did you go so fast?

i have no probs with a gamble (and we all agree its not dangerous to your health) but your sitting down to roll the dice with money you cant afford to loose. Bearing in mind we all agree it can be dangerous for your licence you might want to think about not driving like a **** (assuming you get away with it)

T

ps- driving like a "****" has NOTHING to do with how you were actually driving...this is not an anti speed, anti dual carridgeway....dont care if you were racing a nova or the millenium falcon......the **** part is that you did banning speeds when you need your car.
