No you can't. Australia is a country not a mobile phone....

You cant text Telstra if your on Orange or O2.. But you can if ur on Vodaphone..

I had an UK orange phone over here (moved to Aus,4 weeks ago) everything was fine got texts and sent texts.. Changed the SIM on my phone to Telstra (local mobile phone operator similar to Cellnet/O2) and I now cant recieve texts from Orange or O2.. Can send to them just cant recieve them..

Apparently something to do with agreements and charge backs between the operators...

Apart from that everythings great over here in convict land, should of done it years ago.

I just got an Optus pay as you go and I can receive texts and send them no problem.
FWIW, IMHO Telstra isn't as good as Optus, although it has a better signal range!

im on orange and have been texting my mates bird in australia for over 8 months now with no probs..
so has he- ive seen his bill.It was the wrong side of a grand

i text austrialia allot on o2
costs about 10-20p a message... hardly a massive cost
