Try being a farmer at the moment or a couple of weeks ago. Most i've done is start work at 6:30 and finish at 2:00am. Then be back at work for 6:30 four and a half hours later. I haven't had a single day off since........ The begining of August !

When I was in the RAF and we got exercises which went on for ever and no sleep etc, they used to say " If you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined!"
No sympathy there.

Anyway, 481 quid for Sunday, pre stoppages, plus 40 quid call out, plus a day in lieu, cant complain, apart from the stress and the mental anguish, on may way home I bought (and ate) a Donner kebab and had drunk no alcohol so I cant have been right in the head.

And Leslie, you were being tested for 'the right stuff', I am a lazy no good lump who likes his bed that chose IT as a fairly painless way to earn decent money, I dont have to fly planes or drop bombs, just keep a few Oracle databases running, how hard can it be ?
Got sent home by the IT director cos I had nearly sorted everything but she thought I needed sleep, 10 mins from getting it up (so to speak)

yeah - but its just a very slow printer - I took one of the trainees out on a call today - her client. She was offering the guy a re-mortgage solution that would save him £30.00 a month and she would get £225.00 for it. After 45 minutes I saved him about £150.00 a month and made her £1100.00. Is she impressed with that?????? (Now she thinks I earn £1100.00 every 45 minutes...... I wish)

Not working for the Police it isnt, cant complain as its a good number but I could get another ten grand a year if I got my finger out and went into the private sector but I would miss the 29 days hol, flexi time (extra 13 days off a year), consistent pay rises, chilled atmosphere, plenty of training etc etc.
OT got signed off 17 hours at double time, to be paid in October, gross 500 quid, so I will probably clear about a tenner !

Mate of mine works in a similar field, as in Oracle Financials.
He quit his job and went contracting because he needed more money.
His salary before he quit was 40k, he reckons he'll get close to 60 this term.

You are right of course J4CKO, but they seemed to do a hell of a lot of testing. We got fed up with it and no overtime either!
I must have liked it all really, stayed for long enough.

slight hijack but the problem with contracting is all the outsourcing that is going on. The contracting market, although picking up a bit is not going quite as well as expected. If the former salary was £40k, then you really need to be getting to double that in order to cover non renewed contracts and dead time.

Can I just say to everyone else that as an independant broker I deal with every lender in the UK. It is just that I don't normally deal with every lender on behalf of the same client
p.s. - B2Z - that probably loses something in translation
