Default Oil Drums ?

Quite fancy a bonfire this year, was banned by the missus last year due to the damage to the grass the year before, solution this year to use an oil drum on a couple of flag stones, trouble is I havent a clue where to get one from (empty as I dont need 55 gallons of Crude oil), any suggestions ?

Also please be aware, this is not a cunning plan to aquire an oil drum by subterfuge so I can form a steel band, I am fully aware of the laws regarding steel bands, well I think I am, anyway if they are not illegal they should be.

I got caught once and was told it has to be at 30 feet away from any roads. Its because of smoke dropping the visibilty.

Hello

I bought a "dustbin with holes in" from B & Q, designed for fires. It was £19.99.

What a rip-off. A barrel of oil is about 48 bucks ATM, and you could probably sell the oil on ebay for almost that to someone who doesn't need the container. That way, you'd be left with the oil drum for only a couple of quid.

(Looking for this to appear in Viz' Top Tips next month...)

Try your local garage as many of them buy thier oil in 205 litre drums so they end up with lots of empties sitting out the back waiting for the scrap man to take away.
got one a while back knocked some holes in it and away i went,it did smoke a bit till the paint covering etc burnt off .

Keep an eye out around road works, they have the tar delivered in 55 gallon drums and usually have a pile of empties kicking around.

Then just take a trip to the site at a weekend (when no-one's working) in a suitable vehicle (Land Rover 110 is aparently quite good). Lob one in the back and bobs your uncle.

Good for making BBQ's too, apparently.
