California annuls gay marriages
California's Supreme Court has annulled about 4,000 gay marriages that took place in San Francisco.
The court ruled that San Francisco's mayor had overstepped his authority by issuing same-sex marriage licences earlier this year.
Thousands of same-sex couples were married in the city between 12 February and 11 March, when the court issued an injunction halting the wedding spree.
Gay marriage is a controversial issue in the US.
The marriages had virtually no legal value, but they angered conservative groups, which launched legal challenges to nullify them.
The first couple to receive a marriage licence in San Francisco, Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, expressed sadness at the judges' 5-2 ruling.
"Del is 83 years old and I am 79," Ms Lyon said. "After being together for more than 50 years, it is a terrible blow to have the rights and protections of marriage taken away from us."
San Francisco's Mayor, Gavin Newsom, gave the go-ahead to issue marriage licences, saying current legislation was discriminatory.
His spokesman said at the time that Mayor Newsom was only following "the state constitution, which explicitly outlaws discrimination of any kind".
Common sense at last.

as well they should !!
Now we need to see the law change about being able to adopt kids and the world will be as it was meant to be !
2 men / women cannot naturally have kids together. Thats the way it was intended.

PG - since when does being gay automatically make someone a danger to kids? Care to explain or edit your post.
One other thing - if this thread goes the way I'm thinking it will - it will be deleted, so please be sensible with your posts.

Dunno why gays feel they have to get married ..?! Most definitons have marriage as the union between a man and a woman. Not two of one kind. If they feel so strongly about 'conforming' to society (strangely, conforming when it is advantageous to them ..!) why not go straight and marry someone of the opposite sex.
More support for marriage between men and women is what I say - it'll cure most of the problems with todays 'me me me' society.
(Oh, that and getting Nulab out ...)

I am in full support of Gay Marriages. I don't see any problem with two people who love each other being able to marry. Same goes for adopting kids. If they are going to love the kids and bring them up in a loving and caring environment, then what is the problem.

....its been done to death this one. I recall it was not so much that gays are directly a danger to children but being brought up by a same sex couple has direct and indirect negative effects on the child.
Its mad people believe otherwise....IMO

Let em get married if they want. Doesn't effect me in any way so I ain't bothered.
I'm not keen on the raising of a child in a same sex family..... no real arguement as to why but I just don't feel it's right. I expect though the bully at school, sports team etc would be hell for the kid.
Saying that seeing some of the kids round by me I'm sure they couldn't do a worse job!

The word marriage should be reserved for same sex couples who have been married for 3 years or more.
i am married and i want that word to mean something. Ppl getting married for 6 months then giving up, etc should not be allowed the use of the word!
i met a bloke a while back.....he said "r u married" i saidd yes and he said "me, too....well i was- i just seperated after 4 months" well he can go jump.....he doesnt have- nor never had- a marrage in my book.

The usual SN Homophobes at it again, eh?
Senior_AP: Ever heard of a civil wedding?
I don't think that gay people get married to conform to society.
I'm not gay, but when I got married to my wife, 'conforming to society' was not very high on the agenda. I got married because I wanted to show the world that I love my wife and that she loves me, and that I am proud to be with her! It's exactly the same with gay marriages.
Iwan: FYI, there are gay animals too, so infact it is natures way....
So nerrr!

I was having a bit of fun.
I find it totally abnormal......BUT if two men or women wish to be together then I am happy for them in their happiness.
Bringing up a child is totally another matter and is utterly wrong.

I love SN sometimes, I generally just like to have fun, occasional serious debate. I hate people winding people up in a serious way though....its not really necessary IMO.
Friday fun....its great!!

Got nowt against same sex relationships but I personally don't think same sex couples should be allowed to adopt.
For arguements sake....
What chance would a child have being brought up Marcus & his bum chum?!?
