Default Driving in France?

We've just a booked a holiday in Franceland and was wondering if anyone had any tips for driving over there? Do I need one of them packs of bulbs and such like? Can I get Optimax?

Any help appreciated

I already know they drive on the wrong side and confiscate radar detectors

My tip would be to get a French hire car and drive around in that. Firstly, the steering wheel is on the correct side. Secondly, you are much much less likely to be pulled by the Police.

This site should be useful.

Try to avoid driving tired; thats when you will pull onto the wrong side of the road, usually at a T junction. I pulled out of a McDonalds and started to go the wrong way round a roundabout in Calais a few years ago after a 20 hour day.....

The best way to drive through France is as fast as possible - just keep going then you will soon be out of it

I often drive the scoob in France, some really nice roads

That site posted above pretty much covers the basics, one other thing be carefull not to speed on some of the Péages (toll roads) as some networks calculate your speed between tolls and issue spot fines there and then.

Ohh, they sell 98ron there too, I believe our optimax is only 97.

Further to my last post, another major advantage of a hire car is, if you have an accident, you simply get another hire car.

If you stuff your own car in France, cue major hassle getting it back to the UK and probably the end of the holiday.

Hiring is out, it would bump up the cost of the holiday too much and I'd have to drive a FIAT Panda or some such. If I wanted to drive something ****e, I'd take MrsREV's Clio
