Any sea/coastal fishermen out there?
Im off to Cyprus - enjoyed a boat fishing trip recently so fancied doing some harbour/pier/coast fishing - but i have no idea what to take. Have used floats and "ledgers" (grey weight things - excuse ignorance) before.
What sort of rod/reel combo should i look for and what sort of kit do i need. I see that the line strength is important - whats a good strength of line? How big should the hooks be?
Just fancy wondering down to the harbour for an hour or so every other day - nothing too serious!
Any hints and tips on bait etc?

get some sensas "crazy bait", and some size 16 trebles for the harbour, the little wrasse and bream off the harbour wall peck it to death, but you will get one in the end. When you have one, cut it up and use it as bait for more tiddlers, still with a 16 trebble hook. get the head of the fish, and ledger it out deeper in the harbour if you take some heavier tackle. If you get on a big pier in a big bay, then put a nice slither of fish on a size 6 and whack it out with a big weight.

for catching tiddlers in the harbour, I take a 5ft telescopic and a cheepie reel, I think the two cost me about £12 from decathlon, use about 3lb line.
for bigger stuff I take a 12ft telescopic carbon carp rod, cost about £40 , and again a bigger fixed spool reel, something like 10-12 lb line.
I can't see any point in taking hundreds of pounds worth of fishing tackle, You either have to hump it on the plane or run the risk of the baggage handlers losing or destroying it.
