Default Paint and interior protection

I am buying a new VW which I get in September. Anyway, the salesman has just phoned with some details about the car, and has asked me if I want to have interior and paint protection put on the car. He reckons that it makes the paint permanently shiny, so all you need to do is polish it. He said that any spillages inside clean up really easily.

He said they currently have 40 cars going out on 1st September, and out of those 38 are having this done.

The cost? Special discount price of £299! I said I would think about it (for about 2 seconds).

What do you guys reckon? This is surely a con isn't it?

Its a con

the kit costs £49.99. The interior is just scotchguard and the exterior really isn't any better than a good swissol/zymol treatment.

Depends - if it is Jewel Ultra then it is pretty good stuff. I used to have a 206 GTi and had it done. The Mrs also has a 206. Both did a mix of A road and Motorway driving. Mine after 50K, not a scratch or stone chip on the front, and the rest of the paintwork was immaculate and the leather interior was like new. The Mrs Car? Chipped and scuffed to buggery and the interior isn't looking too clever either. Could just be how we treat the cars I suppose, but having seen a few other 206's not seen many others as tidy as my old one and it didn't get washed very often or much TLC

You could try http://www.amazingglaze.co.uk/

This is what the subaru dealer was trying to sell me when I bought mine.

It's much cheaper online though:
"Save up to 70% by buying direct. Buy today for only £64.95 +p&p"

There's also Jewel Ultra:
http://www.jewelultra.com/english.htm

You can buy a kit and to the elbow work yourself.
