Default Help please- need a new van!

I've just fired another driver for taking the p*ss with his journey times, and have decided to do the deliveries myself for the next six to twelve months as I'm redundant at the factory when the order book is full.

Ideally needs to be transit sized (so I can get at least 2 pallets in it), and have enough power to tow trailer and track car (rather than wreck the Impreza towing with it all the time).

Was thinking about a merc vito or similar, would welcome any recommendations?

What's the ultimate van- and what sort of deals are around?

Not massively bothered about brand, if a french one will do the job and is cheap that'll be just fine

thanks guys,
simon

The ultimate all depends on what you mean. If its diesel power then you are looking at a LWB VW Transporter 2.5 TDi 174bhp.......

If you can spring for petrol, then both the New Vito and VW Transporter have 3.2 V6 petrols with around 220bhp.

If its deals your looking at then Motorpoint have Ducato LWB 2.8 JTD (127bhp) available for £11600 + vat, which is as cheap as they come.

Lots out there, just need to refine your choices a bit then go looking for a van...

Hello Simon.

Wheels and tyres are sound, nice one.

I have just rented a Renault Traffic DCI90 for a week (1200 mls), the drive was comfortable, and the power and speed of the thing was surprising (cruised at 'cough, cough' 100+). It comfortably fitted three people across the front and the load space was massive. It had a sliding side door and a double opening rear.

I have driven the Vito but didnt like the gear change position.

If I was looking for a van I would go to Enterprise and rent one of their vans for test purposes. They are doing a special 3 day weekend deal at the moment, and they have just recieved their new van stock. When I took mine back on Monday they had Renault Traffic's,Vauxhall Vivaro's, Vito's and VW's all new on 04 plates.

I too like the idea of owning a van, Im just trying to think of a good reason why I should have one.

Later Yoza

Not into Vans myself but watched a program on Sky recently and they tested a range of transit type vans.

The best Transit type van was the Ford Transit.

The Ford is faster round the track than the Merc which always seem to be important on here.

Cheers

we have a long wheelbase VW transporter 130 brake here at work - tis the bizness, 6 speed, gearchange similar to civic, very comfy to drive, and for a big van surprisingly quick.

on that basis I would have to say the 175BHP version. I got a price on a 175 SWB model from the VW van centre - just under 15K.

never been a fan of transits, the bodywork on mercs never seems that good, and I wouldn't bother with french/italian vans after doing a 180 in a ducato-in the dry

My Dads got a 90 BHP Vivaro and that's really nice to drive even on the motorway, also my mates got one of the 6 speed 120 BHP ones and he thinks that is great. It looks cool in black too.

Must admit the 174 VW transporter is looking favourite at the moment- what sort of mpg should I expect?

Love the F1 espace RB, but it's french, and will therefore be temperamental. I have a wife for this purpose
