Exclamation Going flying tomorrow!

My friend has offered to take me out in his plane tomorrow. Like a fool i've said i'd love to...

I don't make a good passenger in a car so i don't know what i'll be like at 2000 feet!

Any thoughts or advice?

Chris

It's nothing, you'll be fine.

The weather should be good so you'll have no "bouncy moments".

I was really surprised just how easy it was to take off and land, and more so how bloódy slow it felt once up!!

Just sit there and enjoy the view, it really won't be what you imagine, you'll lust after a ride in a jet fighter afterwards.

Brilliant fun - enjoy yourself. Ask nicely and see if they'll let you fly for a bit...

That could be fun. I was thinking about going for a pilots licence if i like it, there seems to be less restrictions on having fun in the sky compared to on the road. The other half said she thinks i should do it, i thought she's try and talk me out of doing it though.

Thumbs up

Cool!
I am sure you will love it.

If they offer you the controls then remember, gentle movements and watch the atificial horizion guage.

I have been lucky enough to go up in a couple of Tiger Moths and a Yak 52 (ex Russian Airforce trainer prior to moving to jets) and done some aerobatics.

I am scared sh*tless of heights but love flying.

If that's your reason for getting a PPL, then don't bother. It's far more restrictive than driving from your bi-annual medical (depending on age) through to renewing your licence every couple of years and having to know heaps of Air Law.

Having said that, if you enjoy challenging yourself, multi-tasking and have a seat of the pants feel for it (likely if you enjoy driving briskly) then go for it. Without knowing where you're flying from it's hard to say what the vis will be like but it's possible that you won't be able to see that much today, depending on slant vision.

It could also get a bit bumpy if you're flying over any conurbations or large wooded areas close to the ground but don't worry about it, the wings should move up and down.

Enjoy yourself.

I got back ok!

Great fun, flew for about 45 minutes from the south coast, visability was about 15 miles. I took the controls for a while.

Can't wait to go again!
