BEWARE ON THE OLD KENT ROAD!!!
this morning i managed to take this on the old kent road, opposite the junction with ilderton road,
its a speed camera van,the actual camera is a gatso sited in front of the van on a tripod, there is a flash and a battery just underneath it,because it has the battery it is not on the database of cameras as a mobile site, therefore not detected by gps camera detectors.
in my attempt to get a clearer picture on a second drive past, the officer jumped out and pulled me into the side of the road,he politely asked me to not use a camera whilst driving,as it amounts to careless driving,i held my hands up and agreed with him and said i was sorry,he then proceeded to say that he can understand people getting the hump with cameras, but thats just the way it is,
so i replied with,'its not actually the cameras i have the hump with, its the way you have hidden behind an oak tree thats almost the width of the van.'
his reply to this was that it was for health and safety...
i said,YOU WHAT??? how's that then?
and his answer to this was'people keep trying to ram into us so we have to park behind things.'
i laughed and told him that was the most lame reason ive ever heard for hiding a camera, then proceeded on my way.what a tosser!!!

I can see the copper's point to a degree if they HAVE been rammed previously
However, a sign to put in FRONT of the tree would have been my suggestion. Hide behind an immovable object by all means - just make sure you put a sign on the other side of the tree saying you're there.
Go back and tell him that next time and see what he says

Nice one mate! What's with the orange lights? That's a false clue that could cost someone 3 points.
Is it a valid place to put a camera? You know X roads/school/ped crossing/shops etc?

no schools or anything,it is a busy area during the day, and may warrant a mobile camera, but definatly not hidden behind a tree at 7 in the morning with no signs warning about it.bang out of order, underhand tactics used again.
as for was he plod? yes mate he definatly was, traffic i think as he had a white hat, there was a geezer with him who wasnt in uniform, but he stood over by the van.

Unbelievable:
The immediate area surrounding where that van gets sited is a hotspot for muggings, shootings, protection rackets and drug dealing. Where are their priorities? Persecuting the law abiding tax paying insurance taking out chap who strays over the speed limit.
The irony is all the criminals mentioned above drive stolen cars and have no tax or insurance so can speed past the cameras into the congestion charging zone and not worry about paying a penny.
