Thumbs down CATs and the law(again)

Seeing I got muppeted for a serious question

Does anyone know if the VI/VOSA (MOT) are ever going to introduce and enforce visual inspection for "E" european type approval numbers on exhausts systems and catalysts as well as just the emssions in the near future?

If so the days of the decat maybe numbered

I hear the talk in the Automotive junk newsletters but not much of what IS going to happen and when.

visual inspection of E mark is already in the bike test and has been for a few years.

Any idea if it's going to happen for cars? Am I correct in saying that inspections for bikes is purely for noise emissions?

no it is because it doesn't have an e mark (which usually 99.99% of the time is a noisey race can).

have recently heard of people with non standard front lights failing an mot because of lack of E mark.
