yeah a whole 48bhp means you can get fast speeds out of them!!!
at the end of the day if you have a fast car then keep the speeds for tracks dont endanger your life or other road users!

Never timed myself, but have done it mighty quickly in several vehicles, on quite a few occasions IMO it is one of the greatest driving roads in the country
Not too nice a place to be in the middle of winter in a knackered van with a f*cked heater though

Head west on the Snake and then make for the Cat & Fiddle (A537 ). Now there's a road.
Don't bother with the timing, just enjoy the drive, safely

Nearly killed myself on this road, its best driven from glossop to Sheffield direction.
I ran slightly wide on a right hand bend and the rear got loose on the 'marbles'. At around 90mph
Some incredible roads around there. I was there for a wedding recently, some of the moorland roads off the pass near the reservoir are simply mind blowing.
Certainly would never put myself against the clock tho!! As someone else said, save that for the track!

I went across last week, coming back about 7pm, loads of bikes out for a play, or should I say to play with death!
2 bikes came round a blind corner towards me, right over to the white line, I can honestly say I have never seen a bike leaned over/ on the floor so much, the speed was unbelievable too. I realy sh*t my self, thought they were going to come through my windscrene!!
Psychos, I just dont understand it:O

we're doing the snake tonight, then over to strines road as well 2 of the best roads in this area by far, beats the cat&fiddle by miles
I dont ever time myself, and at the moment there are 2 sets of temp traffic lights on it, but I can do it to the big layby, just before the 50 speed limit, and back to mine, in 1 hour
As you dont know where I live, its kind of irrelevant though. whatever you do though, dont go through glossop to get to it, use this road instead off the A624, past "197" "231" and hurstnook farm, to the very beginning of the snake, much more fun
chris.

I used to do this in my youth (8 or 9 years ago!).
I had two objectives,
1. If the road was clear (usually 5am) I would time myself between the National Speed limit sign as you leave Glossop to the National Speed limit sign as you enter Sheffield (This stretch used to be non-stop 60mph zone, not now though!). I think it was about 22 miles long, and my best time was around 16mins.
As I said though, I was then a young fool and would not attempt that now!
2. If the road was busy I would see how many vehicles I could overtake between the above two signs. I think I managed 38 on one drive. Again, this is scarey thinking about it now!
Both were in an Escort TD

I've never seen a crash on the snake and use it most days. Its a great road for testing you're motor. Done glossop(from the pub on the left) to Sheffield outskirts(Bellhagg Pub) in an Evo6 in just under 14 mins last year.

LOL at this comment. Very Patronising considering what you drive . Santa Pod is a straight line run anyway.

I've done it from the Ladybower Inn to Glossop all the way FLAT OUT in every gear, reached some hairy speeds on the drop down to Glossop.
Didn't time myself, but well under an hour
...oh, on a mountain bike, BTW

I remember going across the snake years ago in december at about 11pm in the snow, the only reason I got through was because I was 3 cars behind a snow plough, this was in a 949cc feista MK1, not an experiance to repeat.
I used to enjoy going over it in my escort, but have not tried it in the impreza (YET!!) am sure it will now be littered with speed limits and cameras???
Really nice scenery if you have the time to look!!!

national speed limit from glossop to ladybower lake, no speed cameras and I've never seen a single police camera van on it in all my years
