i've heard that they want to restructure the banding system so all of us c**ts who live in london will be subsidising the industrial northern wastelands (ie watford ) even more than we do already.

I read today that they will re-band everybody and mine would go from 1700 quid to 4 grand + !

Like that can happen, I reckon its scare mongering so we think we got of lightly when they put it up 15 %

Nope it's true.. based on your house value, under £140k and your tax goes down.. above that it's banded and they are talking a minimum of triple existing amounts.

Paying £1000 now - £3000+ depending on value of your house.

It' shocking

Is it not the case that some boroughs of London have the lowest council tax in the land????

I think here in Edinburgh, we're amongst the highest....so less of your subsidy nonsense

yes but we've got more people and less space. the reason your council tax is so high is that you have to subsidise people like M... Ma.... no i won't say it, who live in the *rse end of nowhere and cost a fortune to deliver services to.

Nah. My council tax doesn't cover the ar$e end of nowhere. Believe it or not, Edinburgh doesn't have much space either.....the council tax boundary for us ends at the city boundary.

One reason why Westminster (and places like) have low council tax is because it has a high proportion of rich people. Rich people generally don't require extensive public services. Street crime is lower, streets aren't made dirty as people in 'nice' areas want to keep it that way etc. These areas are also ususally Tory run rather than labour and are normally much more efficiently run thus better value for your council tax pound. I could go on.

Obviously this isn't the whole story as the tax in these areas have been going up. Mainly as a labour mayor has decided to cut the amount of money these areas get from central resources so they have to whack up the tax to make up the shortfall., political as much as anything I suspect by Ken there..

Remember, council tax is local taxation - not directly related to independence of the country as a whole.....

Oh, and income tax is still governed by the UK Goverment - personal taxation is NOT independently goverened in Scotland.

House prices go through the roof. Council Tax is based on house value = Council Tax goes through the roof also.

LOL - you've gotta admire this government. We are getting ripped off at every level by them, yet the idiots still believe they've never had it so good.

Get more credit. You'll be fine.... Drive your gas guzzling 4x4 through the Congestion Zone and stop moaning. PMSL at those chimps

"I'm forcing my husband to buy me one of these. I told him if he refuses I'll divorce him and take *everything*"

IMO, its a clever way to stem house price inflation, without effecting everything else.

People won't want to pay 600k for a house when they have to pay 4000+ in tax. House prices are forced down, as the TCOO is higher, and unaffordable.

Not many people 'have' to live in a 600k house TBH - its through choice. If you choose to live in a house this big for whatever reason, so be it.

OTOH, I think the government are a little too socialist in their ways. If everyone paid the same tax, it would give people incentive to put a bit more elbow grease in, and f*ckin get a job. Its a sh*t state of affairs when my wife and I can't even afford a 2bed flat where we live, even though we earn 35k combined. Two jobs for me as well, just to rent If we had that extra £300 a month instead of all the tax we pay, we probably would be a damn sight more comfortable.

You DONT need qualifications to get a job, you need ambition and hard work. Sorely lacking by the look of things. When 6/8 people working in a service Environment are immigrant labour, we know the jobs are potentially available. (I know this is true, I see it every night!)

Depends how old you are though. 5 years ago we were on £x combined, yet in a 1 bed flat. TODAY, salaries have increased, but not hugely, yet in a 4 bed detached house.

It's called "climbing the ladder" - you can't have it all today. Everyone has to start somewhere....

No, it's called "borrowing more money". Or 'the illusion of success' as it could be seen. Now you have a better credit rating (being a home owner and all) you are merely deeper in debt.

That's one way of looking at it, but as I always say, it's a means to an end. Debt free living in a number of years.

Better prey there's not a recession then. If you are living above your means then all your hopes and dreams will turn to dust.

Every time I come to London I always comment on how dirty it is and how much litter there is.
Maybe worh putting the council tax up to clean the place up a bit.

Cheers
