Wink TOP GEAR - A bit better this week.

I had a poke at Top Gear last week, it left me disappointed.
They improved this week.
Martin Clunes in the reasonably priced car was a scream.
And as for Clarky getting it in the neck for buying that sporty job which only did about 75 miles to the TANK............... Loverly.
Quite liked the Skoda outrunning the Mini too. Hmmmmmmm keep it up lads.

Volunteer marksmen to blow the heads off people who stop in Box Junctions.

Good thinking.

Driving the cars behind a 747 on full chat was quite amusing too! Not sure how they worked out from the results that the mundano was better in a sidewind than the 2CV though, they both ended up totalled!

A thing called brakes

Ford GT got 4 mpg thrashing round on a track. 12 mpg on normal driving will give him a whopping range of err, umm, about 200 miles.

Yeah the brakes were on! Most aircraft can hold against full throttle on the brakes. They aren't actually getting maximum thrust at a standstill anyway because the engines don't become efficient until they have a decent amount of positive pressure at the front of the engine when the aircraft is moving forwards!

Last night it was very funny. I don't view it as a motoring show anymore, it's a funny show with cars in

I did chuckle when I saw the 2cv being flung across the runway If only that happened everytime one drove past Gatwick, Heathrow.....

Wink

but

... as any subscriber to EVO mag knows....

Top Gear takes all the interesting stories from EVO and then uses them around a month later in it's show

I used to think that was merely a coincidence, due to there being only a certain amount of news that actually occurs within the motoring world that's worth covering .... but the story about the demise of the V8 just sealed it for me

I appreciate that every programme/magazine is going to want to feature all the latest new models etc so some features will be the same.. the Top Gear Production team must just sit around relaxing, waiting for the new EVO mag to come out for some inspiration

To be fair SiPie, the demise of the Rover V8 has just about been covered by all of the motoring media including CAR magazine amongst others. At the end of the day, there is only so much that they can cover but it seems to me that any programme devoted to cars should be encouraged.

I remember not so long ago that Top Gear was the only motoring programme on TV back in the days of William Woollard and it was dire. At least we have a choice of four or five programmes now.

Thumbs up

Faire D'Income

Agree totally ...but I'll search my back catalogue as I know there are many more 'specific' examples..

Not saying it's a bad programme as I'd rather watch it that most of the other inane drivel on the box these days

They should rename it to "The Jeremy Clarkson Show" cos thats what it is really. The other two presenter's main job seems to be to make him look superior.

On last nights challenge I was initially guessing the Mini would be faster but as soon as I saw Clarkson was driving it I knew the Skoda would win. as far as I can remeber he wins every single presenter challenge.

Totally agree with kob999 it is the Clarkson show - and personally I dont like the lanky pratt - Tweedle dum and tweedle dummer are paid to make him look funny and seem a great driver.
Whilst I think its a woeful programme, my housemate always watches it so I kind of reluctantly sit through it... Classic last night was them wineing about a 6 seater Honda MPV being useless if you want to carry 7 people - FFS as would be a 7 seater if you wanted to take 8 or an 8 seater if you wanna etc etc - pure car journalism genius...
And what a complete waste of tv license money the Plane v mondeo/2cv was - someone please tell me that Virgin planes did a free one there???
Anyway Clunesy was funny as always and I did enjoy Lionel Richie losing a wheel...2 hours of my life wasted for 2 slightly humerous moments - blimey!!!
Think I'll watch some Men Behaving Badly Reruns next week

Sipie

the reason for Top Gear nicking Evo stories is because they have a contributor called Richard Porter aka Aquadrome aka Sniffpetrol.................who also writes for Top Gear

just one of my conspiracy theories

Hardly a fair fight though.

Since when has the Mini Cooper been a hot hatch? It's a lardy over priced piece of styling.

The Mini weighs as much as a Ford Focus and has a weezy 1.6 engine that struggles with 115bhp and only 105lbft of torque.
The Skoda has 130bhp and 230lbft of torque.

Oooh I wonder which will be quicker.

If they wanted a Diesel/Petrol scrap the Seat Ibiza (Fabia Clone) has the 180bhp petrol and a 160bhp Diesel available for a few hundred quid more than the Mini and Fabia.
That would have been an interesting feature.

Cheers
Lee

I get EVO magazine, and I can't remember the issue where the destruction tested a Hi-Lux, or the one where they tested a 645 against an XKR and a Carrera

Nor for that matter, the one where they tested to see if a GT was a good as a train for crossing continents
