Scotland - Anti English claims a myth
Seeing as we received and gave a few pops in SN over Eurotrash 2004, I thought I'd put this up.
I particulary liked the bit that states -
Being Scottish, you know it makes sense

Almost half said that after a few years living in Scotland they gained an appreciation of the differences between the two countries and that they began to feel more Scottish and British than English.

If enough English move up to Scotland you could find that the Scots become the minority
We could have 2 English football teams then
Might increase our chances a bit

I think this is a fairer representation of the true state of affairs... bigot
After spending alot of time working in Scotland, the theme seems to be -
a)deny anti English sentiment to the English, they are our mates, it's only about footy blah blah.....
b)when talking in groups not involving any English people spout the most terrible vitriole. I am Welsh, they seem to think that I think the same way and have no qualms admitting their predujice to me.
Saying that, I get on fine with them. But then again, they don't despise me or my country.
Geezer

Spent our honeymoon in Scotland last year. Part of it in Edinburgh and the rest near Loch Earn. Everyone (and I mean everyone ) we met was friendly and keen to make our visit as fabulous as possible.
Was in Glasgow on business 3 weeks ago (the night of the England/ Croatia game) and one of the guys I was working with asked in the hotel if there was a pub with a TV nearby. He said there was one just down the road, but he may not be entirely welcome.....
Having said that - I've worked in Glasgow quite a lot recently and all the cabbies and HGV drivers I work with have been wonrderfull - even translating for me when needed...

A friend of mine is English, but was brought up in Scotland from the age of 10. He has a pronounced Scottish accent which confuses people when he says he's from Yorkshire.
He has told me that on numerous occasions he has had to listen to some pretty heavy duty anti-English opinions and vitriol because they assume he is Scottish.

Geezer I think some folk probably think its expected of them, get them alone and they probably have a different view. The way I look at it is that if I had been born 100 miles south, I'd be English
