Question Panic Attacks...

Hi

Has anyone ever suffered from these and if so, how did you manage them without resorting to medication?

i have 2 different types but the one worrying me the most is when it feels like (i imagine)an asthma attack.

Thanks

A link to Dr Claire Weeke's books

EVO

Dr Claire Weekes was years ahead of her time and Self Help for your Nerves or Peace from Nervous Suffering should be treated as your bible mate.

Please buy them... as I wasted over 10 years having daily panic attacks which lead to agoraphobia and brutal depression and the understanding that's offered in these books almost cured me 100% after one read.

Reading those will help you understand what's happening to your body and will help you deal with the physical symptoms (that feel so real ... ie. the Asthma attack one or general tightness around the chest & shortness of breathe is really common)

PS Stay well away from dope if you enjoy the odd spliff. There is no proven link as yet ... but I'm 100% convinced of it

Send me a PM if I can be of any specific help

Don't mess with your health, see a doctor and find out what the problem is. You may have asthma (it can just "turn up" later in life, the g/f started suffering with it in her late 20's), in which case you may need to be on medication otherwise it can be a killer.

Asthma can be triggered by all sorts of things, laughter, stress etc etc, so again, the panic situation may be triggering an asthma attack, which in turn makes you panic more.

Do you have coughing fits, for no apparent reason at all?? These can often be a pre-cursor of asthma.

Thanks Imlach (search didn't bring up the thread)

PS Olly's right,

It's worth getting a full check-up with your GP to rule out anything physical, then get on and treat the panic itself ....

Good luck

Thanks

It was the doctor that diagonosed the panic/anxiety attacks this morning. I was worried about the chest pains and stabbing pain between my shoulder blades and also real shortness of breath (my face flushes and i feel very light-headed). His diagonosis fits in with my life at the moment, i just want/have to avoid medication at all cost really.

I do have a cough at the moment....but am sure it isn't asthma related.

All classic panic symptoms that DrClaire Weekes deals with in detail.

Once you understand what's happening to your body and your brain works out that you aren't really dying, then you'll find you'll relax a hell of a lot more.

The light-headedness was the one that always caught me out

Good luck
