Dogs and Hot Air Balloons?
We happen to be on a "flight path" and our dogs go Ape **** if they see a balloon even a mile or so away. Not just the odd let-u-know wuff but barking like crazy. Is it just our dogs or are they all like that and if so what freaks them out so much? DL

David - It's probably just your dogs
If they happen to be weimarners then it's because they are totally aloof and mad, as they'll bark at a leaf falling if their in the mood too. Damn silly grey hounds (gotta love em though)

Actually this strategy can work, as can shaking a can of stones or dropping keys or similar on the floor, you can also get training cybols for the same thing. The idea is the dog gets trained that it has done something bad and so stops doing it. Couple of schools of thought to this:
1) Dog should not see you making the noise spraying it, otherwise it knows it is you and will perform the same behaviour when you are not there.
2) The dog "learns" it has done wrong, you show it food, when it does something wrong, clash the "cymbals" or whatever and take the food away. It learns the behaviour does not lead to a reward. This doesn't get round the above problem of them still doing it when you are not there though!!
