Workmate killed at weekend
Crash victim named
Police have named one of two people killed in a car crash at the weekend.
Kirsty Highfield, 20, from Oakwood, died when her red VW Golf GTI, being driven towards Little Eaton, was in collision with a black Daewoo being driven in the opposite direction.
A 20-year-old man in the car with her, also from Oakwood, has not been named.
Got a phone call from my boss just before leaving to meet others at Eaton Farm yesterday, a young lad who works on days called Nick (20) was tragically killed while on his way out with 3 friends in their car
Haven't a clue what happened, all i know is he was travelling in the back of the car and was thrown the front screen along with the young lady who was driving
My thoughts are with Nick's family at this time, it must be devastating having a officer knock on ur door to give you such terrible news,
my eldest is 19 soon, and to think that he's still a child really, not seen nothing of the world, yet, he's in Catterick at the moment to his army training and shall be passing out on July 16th.

Really sorry to hear it. I spend a lot of time working with drivers (mainly HGV) trying to persuade them of the dangers of driving tired/ distracted etc. But the "It'll never happen to me" attitude is all I seem to get.
9 people are killed on our roads every single day. 3 of those are driving because of work.
It really could happen to you.

My first thoughts were "no seatbelt?" - I have to admit I hardly put a seatbelt on in the back...
Sincere conolences - something similar happened to a good mate of mine a few years ago.

a seatbelt will save you (and anything else you strap in) going through the window, or through anything else... A person in the back seat (with no seat belt on) going only 60km/hr has enough force to crush the front seat down and kill the person infront.
I Never drive anywhere without one on. And Everything I take with me is strapped down. Small animals, books etc on the back parcel shelf also have enough energy in a crash to kill you.
After a visit to the accident reporting section of our head police station back home (school shock trip) our reaction to things firmed up alot.!
I mean Dianna would still be here if she only buckled up......
