Airmail and Postage question

Airmail and Postage question
If i want to send a small package (small enough to go in the normal post) abroad (Belgium) - as long as I write 'Airmail' and include enough stamps to cover the postage - is this ok? Or does it have to have proper airmail sticker and stuff on it to go properly?

If you write "Small Packet" on top left it goes just as quickly but is cheaper than air mail rate. DL. Not certain you actually need stickers if you mark it clearly AIR MAIL and put on correct stamps. D

I was always under the impression for Airmail it has to be sent actually via the post office! ie if you put stamps on then not sure if it will arrive! they normally print off stickers and put them onto the packet! Also make sure you have the airmail sticker on aswell as writing SMALL PACKET in the top corner as this will make it cheaper to post even if going via airmail!
At least this was what i was informed by the post office just over a year ago when sending items off ebay to europe and america
