Default Snap-on tool cabinet and box or similar?

I'm looking to finally house my tools in something decent and was wondering if anyone knew a good place to pick up a proper tool box (ie decent bearings, solid construction etc) for reasonable money. I was thinking about snap-on but its mega money, has anyone tried the high end Clarke stuff, the Beta ones or recomend any other option?

Cheers for your help! Jon.

Try the Halfords proffesional range. The black ones are full roller bearing etc and a lot cheaper than

Cheers Kev, I'll have a look at those - ISTR Halfords doing Clarke tools so are these just a black version of the Clarke ones you see in MachineMart?

I have a Snap-On top box.. for Home use (work in IT) it was £400 empty second hand...

Would recommend clarke (machine mart) not halfrauds.

clarke or sealey are quite good. Have you looked on ebay for snap on or mac tools?
although mac tools are the same sort of price as snap on but very good all the same

You will often find that Clarke brand products are the exact same as other brand products but with different colours and labels. Very common amongst other brands too.
Makes good economic sense, 1 factory produces masses of a type of product relatively cheaply then sell it on to the retailers for re branding.

I have a Clarke roller bearing toolbox from Machine Mart. Although sometimes I do have to hold the drawers shut to allow the lid to close, it looks great, feels solid and the drawer action is excellent. The link is here (I have the red version - can't find the link offhand).

If you know somebody that has a CostCo card check out in there, they do an American (claimed) company called Homak, I've got the topbox (5 drawer) and 5 drawer wheeled base unit, very good and sturdy comes with all the drawer liners and some of the topbox drawers are segmented, IIRC it was around £300 all in. Would like to have a snap-on unit but I can't justify the best part of a grand for a similar unit.

John.
