Question Does your other half tell you off for speeding?

My fiance has been getting increasing p'ed off when I give the car a bit of welly - it's got to the point where we get into an arguement if I floor it. Having an induction kit and full decat doesn't help because the noise seems to give a false impression of speed.

It's come to the point that when I am with her, I have to keep the revs below 3K, but what am I supposed to do?

(BTW, there are still plenty of times when I am driving alone )

Have you ever questioned why she tells you off? Maybe it's because she feels scared when you give it a bit of welly? It's not a nice feeling to feel nervous in the passenger seat, I know this because I'm a very nervous passenger although I drive quickly myself

I tell my bf off all the time then expect him to remain schtum when I'm driving him

the thing is, her tolerance of speed seems to be going down and down. when i had an impreza she didn't complain that much. now she makes a fuss about doing 80 in a mondeo ffs. i can remember, a few years ago, her doing well into 3 figures on a french peage.

I regularly get an earful. Fortunately my 3 year old daughter sits in the back and says "Go faster Daddy"

Current misses moans like anything about speeding in the scoob but when she is driving its another matter!

Last misses used to complain that accelerating in my old GTIR used to make her brain hurt - daft mare, didn't have much up top to moan about anyway hence getting the boot!!!

Mind you current misses has started complaining that it hurts her neck so she may be for the chop soon. My 2 year old daughter is opposite to Lancat, anything over 30 and its "Slow down daddy!!"

Hi

I think Scoobychick has the right answer, your girl doesn't feel safe in your car. Here's a suggestion; why not take the IAM Advance driving test? Waving your pass certificate at her should improve both your driving & her feeling of safety. It will also cost you next to nothing!

It starts with speeding, then its your beer consumption, then its the way you use the toothpaste, then its your farts then its divorce - do the decent thing and get rid of her now

Been there, done that!!

Mind you mine doesn't nag, she just goes quiet, the knuckles start to go white and she leaves horrible marks in the leather

Worse - she gets physically sick. If it was just nagging I could ignore it.

As I rarely drive anywhere without her, my fast driving days are dying

Cool

Jeez, I must be lucky Mrs NTS doesn't mind too much, she quite enjoys being passenger, when I'm having some fun down a twisty, she isn't so keen when I'm going fast on the M'way and stuff coz she doesn't want me to get nabbed for speeding also hence her refusal to allow me to buy a roadangle/originb2
TBH she quite enjoys chucking the scooby about herself, it was her that suggested the prodrive springs as she said the car didn't feel right at times when she was going fast and to top it off she says she would quite like a noisier exhaust and driving lamps and 18"'s etc etc I must be one lucky git

My I ex had no problem with me driving as fast as I liked. Got no telling off whatsoever from going 140 odd.

Couldn't handle a bird moaning at my speed, tell em to walk if they don't like it.

Tell me about it Akshay! My wife doesn't think anyone should do more than 45 mph.

I have to creep the speed up on a good road so she doesn't notice it.

Nope, but my toy collection has grown quite a bit recently, so I guess I should curb it for a little while

mine tried the shouting malarky at high but relatively sensible speed . All I did was go even faster til she stopped, then said if she didnt like it to find another taxi.

Problem solved

Never had a problem, never will. I spent time choosing a girl with va va voom, she loves it in the car with me.

Many times have I sent the car into a roundabout like a banzai only to look at her, when exiting, reading her magazine with her left cheek on the passenger window.

She's an absolute credit to the non-***** fraternity.

The only time my mrs gave me grief was when I had a saab turbo up my **** and I booted it down the slip road onto the a14 and up to about 14*mph. The fact we were going to tesco on the very next junction meant I hit the exit slip road at a stupid speed.

However I did actually turn to her and say "yes I know that was stupid".

I think it depends on their mood (and before i get flamed its not a monthly thing dig!)

One time my laydee can be perfectly happy and i can get away with almost anything, then the next time out, same road same speed i get chastised for driving like a kev

Saying that she does have her own crash helmet for when we do track days so she cant be all that bad

I would just ask her what the matter is, she may have seen a smash or heard of a freind being in a smash and is a bit upset, women are funny and sensitive like that and need bringing back in line with reality

Nope, I get 'those looks' too. Thing is, she owns a scooby wagon, and it's ok for her to speed - but not me !!!

Mine doesn't like the driving sideways thing either, did it once without warning and she nearly broke her wrist trying to grab something to hold onto in time ! I was in DEEP doo doo for that one .

Wimmin eh

Wink

diplomatic answer would be he loves you and couldn't live with himself if he hurt you

More likely he knows damn well you will b*llock him rigid and give him greif until he sells the car so you need to convince him you love the car as much as he does
