Leaking roof etc....drying out carpet?
I got up this morning, and the gutter's been overflowing, which for some reason causes water to flow down right through the house - between the boards and the carpets etc.
Hence, everything's soaking.
It's an oldish house (1840 ish), and it's happened before, but because it was night time, and the rains came around 11-12 o clock (Liverpool), we didn't notice until this morning.
Anyway, what's the best way to dry out carpet?
Should I put the heating on? Try and mop it up?
I'll take ages if I just leave it as it is, but then the room's full of furnature, that I can't move until someone else comes home.
Quite a lot of water there by the way. You can see it underfoot, when you walk there. It's only in two rooms, one above the other.
Any ideas?

i've had a couple of fairly bad leaks recently - (one self inflicted ) caused the sockets to trip out. had to isolate the ring main and leave the heating on - after 24 hrs everything was pretty much back to normal.

When our houseboat almost sank ( water came in above floor level ) we hired a wetvac to clean/dry the carpets, which hadn't just been wet, they were floating! Worked wonders, 24 hours later, they were bone dry.

Bad luck about the leak
The only way to properly dry the carpets yourself is to take them up & air them outside. Or do as the previous poster & call in the pros!

I'd take them outside to dry, but it's still raining....
