Question More heaphone questions

Was playing my guitar the other day and thought I'd plug my headphones into the amp and get the sounds direct. My headphones are only a 20 or 25 quid pair of Panasonics that were bought for comfort and listening to CDs at work. I tend to play rock/metal stuff so use a lot of distortion sounds. Through the headphones the sound was in a word, crap. Most of the distortions sounded the same but through the amp sound totally different. I tried plugging the headphones directly into the effects unit, but had the same issue.

Can anyone recommend some decent headphones that would be suitable for use with a distorted guitar sound that won't mess/muddy up the sound?

Haven't got a budget in mind, but don't want to go overboard.

Cheers

Steve

I can't really answer but I know from experience long ago that at even modest volumes playing a guitar through headphones causes them to distort, resulting in everything sounding the same...fuzzy but no detail.

I would guess that any of the DJ style headphones from Sony or Sennheiser might cope better with the dynamics involved than normal types...

Bought a set of Sennheiser HD280's a few weeks ago and rather impressed (5 stars in what hi-fi) about £85 delivered online. all the components are interchangable / replaceable so you don't have to buy a brand new set when 1 tiny thing gets knackered - like the fabric on the ear peices...

No idea about hifi/**** listening use-

For work i use pioneer HDj1000s, Sony MDRV700DJ, and sennheiser HD-25 (not the sp version).
All Dj headphones, so designed for volume and dynamic shifts.

If you can distort those ******, then you are insane

Grado GR60 and 80s,can get a pair of 60s for £40 is from Ebay, and they are fantastic for the money. If you are really serious about "cans" (you have to call them this because its the done thing) then a separate headphone amp will further enhance the system

dad has grados which are good but i prefer my sen hd-25 (also had the sp version) ebay can get them "new" for 95 i think. by distortion i assume you mean guitar distortion and not headphone level. Sennheiser also keep spare parts for every part of the headphone and i do mean every part. They are closed type and sound great can cope with 120db of sound pressure which is nightclub level (and tinitus in no time)

Yep, different guitar distortion effects. Anything from a bluesy crunch sound to a distorted screaming metal sound. My current cans make them sound like a wasp in a tube

I just want some that will sound like the sound that comes out of my amp

I got my hd-280's for £85 delivered from unbeatable.co.uk

I use them mainly for movies - sound is very clear although they do tend to crackle a bit under really heavy bass (the kind that causes subsidence )
