The old one is fine, but serial only connection is a bit of a pain to be honest. USB is easier and also would mean that bluetooth enabling the R/A via a dongle would be easier and cheaper, having a few problems trying to do it with a serial.
I suppose the main thing is down to the look of it more than anything

Does the new one have any more abilities to keep you 'points free' than the old one. I am only interested in warning against speed traps etc. I do not want any extra complicated bits.

Apart from the "look" it seems the main new features are:
USB support
Compass
Distance to the "hazard"
A pretty grafic to indicate the nature of the "hazard"
Speech alerts

When you're driving round, the last thing you need to loads of complicated graphics & tiny numbers to look at. The best bet is to keep it simple. Anyway, they both use the same database so the camera & blackspot info. is the same. Pretty soon you should be able to get a good discount on the old model, so I'd stick with that. Works fine for me.

Damn right about complicated graphic etc... thanks guys for the help. I think I will get the old one. I prefer its look as well. I've got the Valentine One at the moment which I will keep until I can afford the Road Angel.
