Oxley claimed half, while Hiscock argued that she should get only 22% - the percentage of the purchase price attributable to her share of the council house sale proceeds. The county court judge awarded her half, but the court of appeal reduced it to 40%.
They are arguing that the concept of common law wife is non-existent, yet she was still given a higher percentage of the sale than she had put in to purchase?!

divorce courts in this country are a fookin joke. my old man lost his business and nearly all the equity in his house as a result of his 7 year divorce case with his ex wife. all because some stupid cow of a judge "symapthised" with his ex wife. there's no need to prove anything, the judge can literally take sides with one of the parties. he should have listened to my albanian friend who had a much more economically rational solution to the situation.

BTTT with a new story - an organisation are now trying to publicise that Common-Law marriage is a myth and should not be relied on.
