Should I become a Driving Instructor?.
Hi
Been considering a bit of a drastic career change. Had almost enough of the construction industry. Recently have been thinking about becomming a driving instructor.
Just wondered if anyone here has been or is one, is it a good thing to do?.
Thanks
Dave

I personally would'nt have the patience. Can't begin to imagine how frustrating it would be teaching people to drive everyday.
If on the other hand you have the patience of a saint... why not go for it

My Brother went from being a chef to being a driving instructor......
Now bearing in mind what we have just seen in Hell's kitchen....
He LOVES being a driving instructor.
He had to pass some rigorous tests to get there over a period of time and has to re-test frequently, but he really really does enjoy his job. Yes he has the plonkers but he also has a great feeling of satisfaction when a student has a pass.
If you'd like to have a chat with him I can put you in touch.
PM me.

Only bad thing would be the people that really cant drive.

My sister started the training.
She got a package from Leaner Driver Centres, I dont know how much it cost her, but consisted of a load of text-books and worksheets and stuff, and regular appointments to go to courses made up of other trainee instructors in the area where they did observed drives etc etc.
I think she got the contact details from an ad in the jobs section of the local paper, there always seem to be a couple of companies offering schemes that guarantee you a job with them when you complete the training.
LDC was this kind of deal, she would have been guaranteed a job in the area and the car and servicing etc was somehow included in the deal.
she gave up half-way through it because she "didnt have enough time to commit to it" I suspect they actually told her she doesnt have good enough observation skills and pi$$-poor car control, but thats another matter.
I kinda considered it for a while too, but I dont think I have the patience for it, and I have far too much mechanical sympathy to sit there while people tear the **** out the clutch and kerb the wheels, even if the car is only leased.

My mate does it, he reckons you'd have to work hard to make anything like decent money at it, he uses it as a second income.
Advantages: 17 year old tottie and your own interior mirror that you can position wherever you like
Disadvantages: Long hours and pimply 17 year old male students who try and kill you by concentrating so hard on getting into 4th gear they wander into the path of oncoming trucks
