Default Need a courier to deliver wheels/tyres

Could anyone who has had a set of 4 wheels/tyres couriered please let me know the company used and cost. It is within mainland UK, I want to buy a set of wheels from someone but it's going to be pretty expensive on petrol to collect (not to mention bitch of a drive!) so I reckon delivery will be cheaper and easier.

Cheers.

You could try Postvan.com

I arranged for 4 alloys to be collected from Wilsons Subaru and delivered to me here just outside Edinburgh.

Only complicated part was they offer two services are both are based on single parcels.

Standard Express 10kg max
Heavy Express 35kg max

I had to ask the Dealer to stack 3 of the wheels together (just duct taped together) and treat as one big parcel on the Heavy service and then have the remaining wheel collected under the Standard service. Postvan actually suggested this themselves and it worked out around £45 for 4 alloys. Both collections were done at the same time BTW.

The problem with tyres+wheels will be weight, so you may have to pack 2 wheels+tyres together and order under 2 Heavy collections.

Should work out about £32+VAT, but with no insurance cover. That may add another £10-£15.

Give them a call and they'll work out the best solution.

Just watch out as some couriers insist on:-

1.) Insist on having an account first - usually not a problem, but can take time and they may need a VAT registered company to set one up
2.) If they accept personal business, Citylink for example only want a cheque and will not insure the parcel
3.) Won't collect for non-account customers and you may have to take the parcel to a local depot.

This is what I found out when trying to arrange delivery from some couriers - Citylink & Amtrac.

Just had a look at parcel2go.com - they will collect a parcel and deliver next day for £8.99+vat. Max weight is 25Kg and max volume is 4cu ft. The weight should be OK for 2 wheels but will the volume be OK? 2 parcels with them would work out just over £20 which is really good, although insurance is only £100 per parcel I think.

Thinking about it some more I don't think I'll get 2 wheels+tyres under 25Kg so maybe postvan is a better option (assuming they're under 35Kg!). Or 4 separate parcels.... hmm!

Try some standard hauliers rather than couriers, esp if you don't mind a 2-3 day service. Strap them to a Pallet and you should be able to get it moved pretty much anywhere on the UK mainland, up as far as Glasgow / Edinburgh for £40 or less. Try somebody like UPS Haulfast or Palletline. Should be carried to RHA (or possibly CMR conditions). RHA was about £1000 / tonne of insurance when I was in the game, but that's a few years back now.

Otherwise find the name of a haulier based where you want the goods to go that runs to your neck of the woods and see if they will back load it, even cheaper. Give me an idea where they are going to and I may be able to suggest some people

Cost me about £42 to ship 4 wheels from London to Scotland using Parcel Force. About 30kg in total.

They will be going from Bracknell, Berks to Glasgow area, I could get them dropped off at my dad's work in Glasgow as there will always be someone there to sign for them during the day. I will ask the seller if he can weigh one of the wheel/tyre to get an idea of the total package weight.

Yeah Paul - how you doing mate. Remember those BK238 - 18's I got for the mondeo? alloy and tyre was 24kg each. Total cost was £64 from parcelfarce - no damage or anything. Picked up and were at local depot for collection.

What ones you getting go on - go on - go on!

I'm now trying to sell some wheels from my old Peugeot. Prob is that people want quotes (well I expected this).

All I have are the wheels and studs that I want to ship, no packaging. Who will take the wheels "as is" and look after them so that the arrive undamaged?

I take it that people like parcel force will need them all boxed up?
