Default Best Isa rates were to look plus other savings advice

I want to put £6k into a minicash isa (mine and the wifes)

Looked at C&G's 5% - but this is a postal account and is therefore a pain

Is M&S about the best rate out there - I think I heard that Abbey was it had a good rate but thyey are snowed under

Plus lets say I had about £100k to invest were would one put it at the moment...

I was thinking somewhere along these lines:

£30k in premium bonds (£15k me and £15k wifes) - esp as the rate goes up to 2.* from Septemebr - still a faairly crap return but always the £1m chance
£20k in high yielding shares - united Utilities. Lloyds TSB and say 2 others.. (£5k each) - stop loss of 20% if the shares fall
£6k into mini cash Isa's (mine plus wifes)
£10k into company high yielding bonds - just need to decide who
£25k into something like Egg - offering 4.75% for the 1st 6 months
£9k as spare change

I dont like being too tied down (i.e. long notice type accounts)and I may gamble with a few £k on IG index options betting. Alternatively I may take some money and put it into a few foreign deposits on homes not yet built..... you know the sort of schemes there are out there..plus also in the Uk - the property opportunity types sites where the developer gives a big discount up front for money on properties just commencing the build or not yet started....

Looks like m&s it is then

I can get a better rate with Egg at 4.75% - but then I can move it if things change...

Too late for you now I know but only one place in the last 2 days- M&S shares- up 20%- in and out for a healthy wad or hang on in for other bidders for the company to excite the price even more.

Think you might find M&S have now stopped taking applications for their cash ISA - check with them first...

Possibly but worth double checking with them. Check on websites such as moneyfacts for the latest best deals...
