Default PETROL WAR

Got this from a mate at GMP

Petrol Prices

Guys please forward this to everyone in your inbox. A lot of us rely on our
cars for work, not to mention pleasure...

Campaign to Reduce UK Petrol Prices - a rip-off at 80p a litre Petrol
prices are once again on the rise... Looks like we're going to hit close to
89p a litre in some places by the summer. Want petrol prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action.

Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day"
campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just
laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by
refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a
problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really
work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC
nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at
77p -80p, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS
control the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more
each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to
see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not
purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest
oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any
petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.. If they reduce their
prices, the other companies will have to follow suit..

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP
petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this
point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of
people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at
least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten
more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the
sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION
consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten
friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes
one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not
buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this
email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION
people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet
you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting
together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass
this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a
LITRE RANGE

Action: It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy
your petrol at Shell, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons (75p)

It's shiny, metallic, made by Subaru and is immersed in a large expanse of water.

For the love of God stop posting this drivel.

If anybody thinks petrol's too expensive, I might be able to help out. I was left a considerable sum of money by my uncle, the late dictator General Abuna Bowego, but I just need a bank account to transfer it...

The comments on this thread are just typical-if people actually tried this sort of thing,it could possably and i stress POSSABLY work, it just sickens me that us Brits dont make some sort of stand against the petrol prices-this idea actually makes sense, because you will still be able to use youre "pride and joy" without all the blockade ****e that we all put up with last time. The French wouldnt have let it get this far-why dont we all just try to make a difference eh.
Petrol price wars do work-just take a look at the prices in Eastbourne at the mo-theyre about 6/8p a litre less than surrounding areas!!!

Rant over

easy

probably because most brits realise that the govt needs the tax money. if they dont get it from petrol, they'll have to get it from elsewhere, such as income tax increases, or reduce spending somehow. the govt cant magically reduce petrol tax without losing out on income.

isnt eastbourne full of retired people? if so, then chances are its because as the prices went up, people just stopped buying petrol completely and didnt use their cars. hence demand fell, hence prices had to fall. this is at the cost of the supplier tho, NOT a reduced tax from the govt. the govt still gets the same money. and the supplier can only drop the price so far without making a loss.

boycotting one company wont work. they simply CANNOT reduce their prices to 69p (or whatever), because they'll be running at a loss. so at best, they'll just shut down, and there'll be a reduction in supply of petrol, causing prices to go UP, not down!

theres only two ways you'll pay less for petrol:
* use less.
* move somewhere else that has a different taxation policy.

No, it will not work. It is seriously flawed.

BP supply a large proportion of ALL fuel stations. There's a huge BP refinery at Grangemouth which processes much of the North Sea Oil - funnily enough, I haven't yet seen a Sainsburys or Asda refinery

We've done this to death on other threads, hence the apathy.

Chain mail is also so so dull. It's effectively spam. We don't want it here thanks.

on a serious note.......VERY FEW PPL ON HERE REALLY CARE ABOUT PETROL.

your cars are thirsty and you spend more in glue on bits than petrol so whats the moaning about.

i drive a car that gives me 19mpg avarage....if i wanted i could drive a car that gave me 45mpg...as could all of you- but you dont.

and if i wanted lower fuel costs i would rather change my car than allow petrol to drop which would put more cars on the road which is not a good thing.
