drinking and push bikes?
a group of friends are going on a sponsered bike ride for a play school, that one of the lads partner works for, as its self funded. the thing is, it incoperates a couple of pubs on the way. are you subject to the same alchaol levels as you would be in a car? and if so what would happen if you were stoped and breath tested, would your car licence be in danger? basicly are you allowd to drink and ride

Is this permissible? I'm not really into road traffic law.....

Not sure they would charge you though. A mate of mine got stopped on his bike when he was so pissed that he could barely ride at all.
The copper just laughed at him and told him to push it home.

OK not saying you are wrong but on what basis please? What is this technicality? DL (some one who cycles down the pub and may have "one over the odds").

Got this from a lawyer mate of mine:
Cyclists who like an occasional drink should be aware that it is on offence to ride a bicycle (or tricycle) on a road or other public place whilst unfit through drink or drugs.
But, the police have no powers to breathalyze you or to take a blood or urine sample. It follows that refusal to give such samples is not an offence.
The police have to fall back on the old-fashioned tests, such as making you walk a straight line. They have to prove that you are incapable of having proper control.
The offence is punishable by a fine up to £1,000.
There is no truth in the urban myth that they can dock points on your driving licence, should you have one.

Cycling when under influence of drink or drugs.
********30.—(1)*A person who, when riding a cycle on a road or other public place, is unfit to ride through drink or drugs (that is to say, is under the influence of drink or a drug to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of the cycle) is guilty of an offence.

On an unrelated front, didn't realise it was an offence to not have a dog on a lead on a public highway...
Control of dogs on roads.
********27.—(1)*A person who causes or permits a dog to be on a designated road without the dog being held on a lead is guilty of an offence.

I got stopped twice on my pushbike about 10 years ago and cautioned for what they said riding in a reckless and dangerous manner, I was speeding in a 30mph zone! First time 49mph second time 56mph within half a mile of each other on different days.
Have to say it didn't stop me going fast.

The problem with cycling pissed is that you develop the mind of Evil Kinevil and the co-ordination of a circus clown... bad combo. I once woke someone up by crashing into their front door... looked up to see a bemused geezer asking me if I was ok... cue frantic checking of bike in the usual macho manner. Didn't notice the gravel embedded in my skin until I got in the shower next morning.
Concentrate on going in a straight line and you'll be ok.
56mph! shocker!

I remember a couple of years back walking back from my local and Pikey Ron had left a minute before, well pis, sed, wheeling his bike before he got on and promptly tipped into the ditch. I caught up and tried to help him up. Trouble was he thought I was trying to mug him and had a go before running/staggering off! A week later his sister turned up looking for his bike which I had taken back to the pub. Apparently Ron had gone on to another couple of pubs, fallen over again and ended up in hospital with cracked ribs - all my fault, of course
