Changing my surname....
I'm looking to change my surname and i don't know whether to go to a solicitor or use http://www.ukdps.co.uk/WhatIsADeedPoll.html ?
I'm not getting divorced or married or anything like that so i wondered which would be the cheapest way?
Thanks

http://www.lawontheweb.co.uk/basics/changeofname.htm would appear to be a cheaper option
Why change, btw?

Any lawyers on here? I didn't think you really needed a Deed Poll, they're just something to make it more "official". I remember applying for a passport and wanting my nickname as my middle name (it's a real name, not "lardy guts" etc ), so we wrote a letter accompanying the application saying it wasn't for nefarious purposes and now I have it on my passport and my driving licence without problems. Talking to someone a few years ago, I understood that a legal document wasn't really necessary.

I changed my Surname a few years ago too.
I had My Fathers surname but because I haven't seen him since I was about 4 or 5 I promised my Stepdad (who has always been there for me while I was growing up) that when I could I'd change my surname to his. My Father would never let my Stepdad adopt my Sister & I even though he wanted nothing to do with us
I used a local soliciter in Marlow and it was done really easily in one afternoon We got all the paperwork signed then had to go to another soliciters down the road who witnessed it. I then got copies of the paperwork to send of to who it concerned.

Hiya,
I did this about 18 months ago. Nothing to it ! Did it all online through deed polls online, it basically cost me around £39 plus extras for certified copies. Came to something like £59 altogether. No solicitors were involved, the only pain was having then to inform the powers that be, but thats where the certified copies came into use. I drafted a common letter to everyone and where necessary included the copy. They were all returned to me in due course.
I married my fella last October so it was one job less to do then since it was his name I'd changed mine to ! Also, I gave myself a much desired middle name during the deed poll change, Erin.
Good luck.
