all IMHO.

The way i look at it
1.The are well educated
2.Work hard
3.Low crime
4.Lots of personal savings
Against
1.Bad borrowing/debt.
Once they work their way out of the debt, surely it'll be a good place to invest?

Signs in the right direction, 8 straight quarters of economic growth and consumer expenditure up 1% last quarter, bunkruptcies are reducing, auto industry is very healthy (except Mitsubishi), Toyota just reported a trillion yen profit for last year.
There is still a lot of corporate debt and the govt may have to do more bailing out yet.
Increasing oil prices may cause some inflation, which would be quite a change from the stagnation/deflation of recent years, but may have an adverse affect on growth later in the year.

Mmmm I thought this before I actually lived in Japan. IMHO Japanese people do very long hours yes but work hard generally no. This is a generalisation in the same way that people THINK that all Japanese people work hard.
Ho hum.
