And there are plenty of others ....

Make you wonder why you bid sometimes! I have found that a good way to encourage strong auctions on stuff you sell is to be open and realistic (eg. detail cost of jiffy bag and the stamps in your auction details), or even throw in p&p costs.
Be careful out there guys!

I have paid lots for p&P in the past, only to have a the stuff sent in a re-used envelope with works franking machine stamp on it.
But it is a bit swings and roundabouts as I have bought several items where I have paid way less that the actual cost of stamps on the item sent. One item cost me less to buy (inc P&P) than the guy paid for postage!

I use the works franking machine for my ebay postage, but i still have to pay for it at the end of the month. Its just easier than queing up at the post office, so not everyone using a franking machine is pocketing the postage charge.

did you not read the postage costs that are usually written at the bottom of the page?
the real rip-off's usually have smallprint that say - "VAT will be added to winning bid" - pirates

Saw a similar thing a while back. A really nice pic of a lighthouse (My "thing"), turned out it only measured 8x10 and supposedly a steal at a couple of quid...then I saw the postage..... £10 + ha ha ha ....... someone somewhere is having a laugh. Just cruise through a few similar items to what you're wanting to buy and check out postage rates, they varey incredibly. Definately some sort of scam going on there.

Its actually against ebays terms and conditions charging blatant+ excessively high postage.
The scam they see it is dodging their fees, ie you list something cheap and it sells cheap, therefore reducing the fees payed to ebay, but then they charge something daft for shipping in order to make some extra.
Cant remember the exact name they call it-its somewhere in the safeharbour rules.

I've just been ripped off by someone selling 205 parts on a Pug board. I paid him for some clear side repeaters a month back and he's disappeared now.
Only £6, but its the principle of the thing, same to me as if it was £60

I normally charge a flat rate or £1.50 for my postage then sometimes its overpriced or sometimes its underpriced. But most of the time it is around that sort of price region so no one is getting ripped off! Ebay does state that a seller can add a little extra to postage costs without it being in the auction but the price he/she charged you is a definate no no! £3.51 is the price of an item weighing up to 1kg being sent first class! whereas a cd i sent first class yesterday (not an ebay item) was 71p sent in a padded envelope.
However i do sometimes reuse jiffy bags and bubble wrap providing it is clean and tidy but never use a works franking machine is i dont have one
You should report that seller to ebay for over priced postage charging

I see they are trying to stop sellers passing on PayPal charges to buyers. Some charge 5%+ of the price if paying by paypal, another way of bumping up the total cost of an auction.

I sell loads of records on ebay
mailers i buy in bulk- work out to be about 25p each plus the cardboard insert on top of that.
1st class recorded is 2.00 ish (unless its heavyweight vinyl) so i charge 2.50- plus an extra 50p for double packs.
The extra few pence covers paypal/ebay charges and petrol/ hassle of posting etc.
Still cheaper than some record shops charge- ive had muppets trying to charge me extortionate amounts for postage before.
I fail to see how this muppet can justify that charge for one cd

I bought a set of 5 blank DVDs through Amazon for £5. The price seemed reasonable enough but once I'd ordered them I found the postage to be £5 as well. I emailed the seller (independent seller through Amazon) stating that I'd like to buy 2 more sets, so to save re-ordering. He wanted £5 postage per set eventhough he was going to send them out as one parcel. £15 postage for 15 DVDs!

I have been 'done' by people on Ebay with postage rates too, but as someone else said, if the postage rates are not clearly stated, don't bid. I use digital kitchen scales + the post office website to get postage rates, so I don't rip peeps off, only charge them what it costs me, but I DO charge 4% paypal. IT COSTS ME 4% CHARGES IN PAYPAL (as I accept C/Cards too) and why should I pay them for the convenience of the buyer????? If you don't want to be charged the extra 4% then it's simple, don't use paypal, send a cheque or PO. Maybe I'm wrong to do this, but I don't think so.
