Default converting euros to sterling

We have just sold our apartment in spain, the funds will shortly be with the solicitor and we need to get them back here and do the best we can with the exchange rate. The euro against sterling is up and down like a ****** draws and can make as much as 4K+/- difference to us at the moment.

Has anyone done this and what route did you choose? When we paid out we used xe.com to do trades but unless the solicitor sets up an account and does the same (which he'll probably charge time and money for) we cant do it coming back.

any thoughts

cheers

Gary

I've used xe to move cash too. I fail to see why you can't use it in this case - either get your solicitor to wire it direct to xe with your account/trade details, or get him to send it to your bank in Spain and you do it. I must be missing something

In my experience bypassing the banks makes a hell of difference - I'd figure something out if I was you.

Ah,OK. Think I've got it. xe don't have an account in Spain. For me moving money between the UK and US it's OK because they have a Bank of America account at the London branch.

Figure something out I hate the banks trying to shaft me on exchange rates, annoys the hell out of me. Grrrr. Pet peeve.
