Default SMS to landline...

This may be SIAL material....
...but if you have a UK Vodafone mobile, try sending a SMS to your UK landline number

I'm advised this is not a hoax, but I haven't got access to a VF mobile to check

Have fun....apparently

Remember, you heard it here first...

T-mobile are also set to launch this soon as well.
I can see it being very irritating after the novelty value has worn off, everytime your phone rings a computer generated voice tries to decipher a drunken text message from your mates!

...if this is a new service (albeit a 'softly' introduced one), do we know what it costs? There may be a few pi**ed-off SN'ers if it turns out that "SMS-to-landline" costs £1 a shot!

Cool

This thread really should be in muppets talk about little things please little minds I can't believe it has taken you this long to figure this out. It is not new at all just nobody has bothered to investigate it or accidentally send an SMS to a landline number.

AFAIK, it's only been available in the UK in the last couple of days......and that's why I put UK in my first post (twice)...and yes, I did know it was available elsewhere in Europe already

T-mobile are charging 10p per text sent and it doesn't come out of any allowances you might have.
T-Mobile are on the verge of suspending this service as they are having a few "issues" apparently.

...no. I called my office number and it worked (from VF contract phone). The office doesn't use BT as its provider, although when the 'text' was delivered the service announced it as being "BT".

I cant see why it wouldn't work with telewest because its the mobile network ringing the landline number as per a normal call. Which mobile network are you on? T-mobile were going to suspend the service this afternoon and I haven't tried mine since.

I can't believe that it really works.

Also can't believe that I tried it.

I am on BT, you receive a message to say you have a message.
A female voice then 'read' my text. She pronounced scoobynet in a strange way though.
