Default Battle Royale

Did anyone watch the japanese film on channel 4 last night?

It was good and made a nice change from the usual american rubbish, the film had a plot and did not concentrate on how beautiful the actors were.

I only watched it until about midnight, as I then fell asleep.

What happened at the end?

(Doubt the Blockbusters will have it, but I look forward to watching the whole film at some point).

I watched it till I fell asleep too.
I think it was quite good. Might have to get it properly.

I really enjoyed it, watched the whole lot, fairly clever ending as well, won't ruin for those who only saw half of it!

STILL haven't seen this, REALLY want to. Isn't the "winner" the evil schoolgirl in Kill Bill 1?

No!

BR1 is a really good film. As you say its quite cleaver and has a good plot. BR2 is out now, and it is really bad, so dont waste your time on the 2nd film.

Some more good jap films for anyone whos intrested : Itchi the Killer : Zatoichi :
Azumi. The list goes on, jap films, the good ones are very good.

Enjoy.

FFS! missed it! Watched some homo-erotic tosh on BBC1 about a convicts on a runaway train - I say homo-erotic becuase it just smacked of some dodgy underlying insinuation.

Battle Royale is an immense film. Comedy when the one lad discovers his weapon is a saucepan. Legend has it that the teacher who votes the class to enter BR is the host of Takashi's castle but I'm not sure its true having only seen BR once.

It certainly is, sort of (ladies favourite the general is the real host ) - but Takeshi 'Beat' Kitano created TC, and you'll sometimes see him driving the boss cart at the end - he looks a lot more fresh faced on most as he doesn't have the scars from his bike accident. He's also the Japanese soldier that says 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence' in the Bowie film.

Kitano is one of my favourite actors/directors, I highly recommend checking out Hana-Bi (AKA Fireworks), Sonantine, Brother, Dolls, Violent Cop.... the list goes on

I caught half an hour of this film last night but had to switch off at 11.30 (early start this morning!).

Cracking film with a very unusual plot, would've loved to have been able to see the end....

Nick.

Saw the first hour of this last night - wanted to see the end, but also sufffered from the 'got to get up early for work' syndrome. Will have to keep an eye out for it either being repeated, or go and get the DVD if available.
It sort of struck me as being a 'Lord of the Flies' with automatic weapons in part...

Why wasn't this film advertised in advance?

I only knew it was on because I happened to be watching channel 4 as it started.

Think it caught most of us by surprise.

The one who plays Gogo in Kill Bill is the lass who goes out jogging in BR, not the winner or the evil one who racks up all the kills.

She seems to be a bit typecast as a groin stabber

Yeah the groin stabbing had me reaching to protect my crown jewels. Fantastic film

Like the bit where the Teacher gets it and just says "Ouch! that hurt"

Good God Total agreement on what a brilliant movie this is!
Loved all of it, and managed to stay awake until the end.
Sad to read Battle Royale 2 is not so good.
