super si I did BIS at Leeds Met Unit I didn't finish the degree and I won't reccomend Leeds Met at all (apart from Beckett Park Campus which is much nicer than being in a city centre)
I did the full time BIS course and my lectures added up to about 10 hrs a week - what can you learn in 10 hrs FFS
The course itself was crap awell IMHO. But maybe I just wasn't suited to that side of IT. There was no chance of doind web design which is what I wanted to do...
I'm being a bit vague but I hope this helps...

ehh? cycle from the station to Becketts, around 30 mins I'd guess. Did a 4 yearscourse at the met (when it was the Poly), great place, loads of pubs on the way into town, nice grassy areas and very good sports facilities/gym due to Carnegie being there.
regards,
Greg

I went to Sheff-Hallam but that were a few years ago now so I couldn't tell you what the courses are like these days.
The Computing staff were good back then though IS had its share of tossers - we all wanted to MUD and chat and those buggers weren't having any of it!
Bonkers.

Si, did my MSc in Networked Information Engineering (Distributed Architecture and E commerce) at SHU, completed it about 2 years ago. Generally the facilities within the CMS (Computer Management Sciences) are reasonably good seems to have plenty of space...and access to the right systems..big mickeysoft uni..so would put that as a negative
For Distance learning courses, we did find the tutors a bit hard to get hold of and unresponsive to our enquiries, perhaps the course fees were not high enough ..However if you are full time, it should not be to hard to get hold of them, not unless of course they are either lecturing or consulting..
Think SHU students are generally well thought of within the industry, so there should not be any stigma attached ...well i have not found any yet
Cheers

Went to the Hallam, Loved Sheffield and the uni was quality, spent a year living in Leeds (in Headingley) with my bro, that's cool too, I don't think there's much in it, but my bias says Hallam!

I also Did a BSC in Network Communication Systems (started in 96), and I would say it was pretty good on the whole. Just avoid some lecturers who wear sandels and talk Unix all day. (ahem CooperS will prolly know who im on about )

Also did a BSc in Computing (Nets & Comms) at SHU started in 1995.
Nets & Comms was one of 3 choices - oithers being Software Engineering or BIS with BIS being the least technical.
Majority of lecturers were good. Though there were one or two chocolate fireguards back then.
One chap was interested in developing distance learning so he decided to teach us via that method even though we were supposed to be full-time. Not impressed with that, particularly when the practicals were not set up right and there was no-one to sort it! Think we saw him about twice over the semester! One would hope these things would get sorted out over time.
Facilities seemed good.
City is good.
Wonder if DM still works there. Hubba!
